I would try cheap vodka...I think it's Popov that comes in the plastic bottle. That usually works or will at least get enough of it out so that it's not as noticeable! Good luck!

You could try Iron Out, you can get it pretty much anywhere - I think I got my last bottle from Wal-Mart.
I've used it on clothes and general household cleaning before.

Good luck, I know it's aggravating to mess up a favorite piece of clothing :)

You have to use a special product for rust, like Susan B. said. Rust isn't like other stains. Bleach works by oxidizing, or chemically burning, the stain. Rust is already oxidized - it's oxidized iron, so bleach won't do anything except leave white spots arounf the rust and possibly make the fibers weaker and tear easily.

You probably rubbed it against something made of steel, which has iron in it.

I've seen special rust removers in Kroger, Target and places like that.

There is a product called Rust out which you can find at Publix. I am not sure what fabrics you can use it on but check the label first.

Hey K., have you tried CLR? It is supposed to remove calcium, lime and rust. I have used it on things in and outside the house and it has done very nicely. I havent tried it on clothes, but its a thought.

Don't use bleach. My book says it will set the stain. We've been trying to get iron (same as rust) out of my daughter's clothes because she is taking vitamins w/iron and most of it ends up on her clothes as she is 5 months old. We've had good luck with hot lemon juice removing the stains. Just heat some lemon juice in the microwave and pour it throught the stain, rinse with hot water, repeat until you can't see the stain.

Good luck!

There's a product called ForceField SoilBlaster available at Linens N Things, its also sold as ForceField Fabric Cleaner at Calico Corners & Handcock Fabrics. Its made by a company called Sheild Industries based in Woodstock. It's really great stuff, it works on all kinds of stains on all kinds of fabrics. I worked for Shield prior to my current job. I'm not just promoting it b/c I worked for them. I stopped working there a year ago and still use all their products!

Bleach may work but it'll also eat at the fabric.

Iron oxide... hmmm...

I don't know -- maybe a dry cleaner could give you advice.

I would not use bleach because the white washing effect shows in a different texture/pattern than bleach would in the fabric. Try using the bleach for colors first. Sometimes dishwasher detergent bracks the molecules down smaller and takes the stain out. However, it too can work like reg, bleach and leave a bleach spot, the spot will look more like the white wash pattern.

If it were an oil base sometimes putting reg. liquid dish detergent (for the sink) on the spot and scrubbing with a toothbrush will remove it.
