I have an adorable 10.5 month old that I want to start weening her from the bottle. She has been taking a sippy cup for awhile now with juice/water but will not drink her milk from it at all. She is on soy milk and we have tried all the flavors, but it does not matter, she still will not take it. Her ped said try offering the sippy cup and when she rejects it, put only 2 oz milk and the rest water to make it taste yucky in the bottle, he said within 5 days she will be glad to drink from the sippy cup. I guess I worry about her missing her feedings because she does not take that much in the first place. Any advice is appreciated!

What can I do next?

That's not a bad idea from your Dr., she is still young and being on the bottle til she is around a year old is ok... Try what your Dr. said, or what I did was stopped putting milk in the bottle, all I put in it was water and karo and put juice and milk in her cups, different cups and see how that works. That is what I would always do and your child will be ok, she will drink it when she is ready!! Good Luck............D.

Hi, I did the same thing with my son. But I didn't take him or my daughter off the bottle until they were 1. I would put water in his bottle and then the milk would go into their cup. Eventually within a couple of days they got the point. I also used the soft sippy cups instead of the hard plastic ones. They seemed to adapt better. Then I switched to cups with straws. Good luck!!

my son wouldnt give up his bottle till he was about 15months, he would drink his juice from a cup but not his milk, he just wasnt ready. just keep offering it to her and soon enough she'll take it. we just had one day where he finally decided he was ok with the cup and we gathered up all the bottles right then and put them away and he never looked back

When my son was 1 year old he already had 4 teeth on top and 4 on the bottom. He loved his bottle and would not drink from a sippie cup. I gave him a regular cup with a little milk in it and sat down with him. I would drink out of my cup and show him how do do the same. He had a few spills but in no time he was on to drinking out of a regular cup. He still wanted his bottle, however after a short time when he figured out how to get fluid from the cup in his mouth without it spilling all over I put all of the bottles away so he did not see them. He cried for his bottle for a few days and then got over it. The trick is helping them understand that drinking from a reuglar cup is cool.
