Getting Rid of Mucus for My 3 Yr Old

Hello J., I really feel your pain in many ways. My first son had eczema at 4 months old at 2yrs he had an allergic reation to a walnut, I got him tested with a wonderful allergist in Pleasanton/Walnut Creek area. Its crazy because he lives on peanut butter since 2 and idsn't bothered by it. But was tested for walnuts and pecans he will stop breathing. Then at 3yrs found at with bad cold he has asthma. We did breating treatments inhalers all of it. His dr told me it is all related starting with the baby acne at 2 months. ugh!!!! I read AL's response and I wonder if she goes to the same dr as my son. Her situations sounds just like my son's allergy testing. We found out this summer that he is also allergic to dustmites, dogs and grass. We did the same thing as AL with our son's bedding. He was put on Zrytec at 6 months. I stopped at 3yrs old as he was put on the nasenex (sp?) also. We did all of it like AL and hands down went back to just giving my son Zrytec and what a huge diffence. As for getting your daughter to blow her nose. at 2.5 yrs I showed my son when mom and dad blow their nose and how much better we feel. We also (this is gross) but would show him what we blew out of our nose he thought that was cool. Must be a male thing. We told him all that yucky stuff was in our nose and now we feel better. Just like potty training we made a big deal when he blew his nose giving him a choc. chip. Milk does create mucus so when he is sick no dairy. We give him those non dairy Horizon milk boxes when he wants milk when he is sick and use it for his ceral too. I LOVE THEM.

My son (3 now) was continually congested and would have a congestive cough and the doctors kept saying he had asthma. But the asthma treatments never seemed to help him. We noticed that he was less congested by the end of the day - like I was with my allergies. We suggested to his dr that maybe it was allergies. He told us to try children's Zyrtec and wow what a difference. He takes it twice a day when he is showing signs of his allergies. I suggest you talk to your daughter's dr about it. Good luck!

I want to say Thak YOu for doing the best thing and that is to love a child. It is good that you took care of your family needs when in this day and age so many make excuses not to.
I have made another friend thru Mama Source who moved from overseas back to the U.S., just to take care of her 4 neices and nephew-- she now has a household of 8 very blessed children.
I don't know how religious you are but I have a large picture in our home that on either side of the Savior it says"I never said it would be easy" "I only said it would be worth it".
I have 5 children. One was my best pregnancy because we got her at age 16. We have raised many foster children as well. The foster system is not the greatest in the United States becasue some get lost in the system and it is not always careful of the people that apply for the job of parent.. So again I want to Thank You for being the kind of person that takes a childs needs over your own.
About your little one. Have you tries saline wash while giving her a bath? When we lived in Guam our pedi doctor would have us take our daughter to play in the ocean. The salt water that ofcourse got into her nose would loosen things up and help the problem. I am sure that your pedi doctor can send you to the ENT (ear- nose- throst)doctor who will be of great help. Good luck with this because as you said it can be obstructive to breathing and that is sacrey to a parent.
I have found that parenthood has been the best and most rewarding thing I have done. I became a Child Advocatefor special education becasue of what I personally experianced with my children. My son although he is 8 had the same issue. Originally, we thought of it's a cold it will run its course, but it never would really go away. We eventually took him to the doctor, the first doctor said he is allergic to dustmites and for us to cover his mattress/boxframe with that plastic covering that is suppose to keep the dustmites out... well that KINDA helped along with the doc's suggestion to give Children's Benadryl..but it didn't clear him up completely, took him back to the doctor's and again, they checked his ear nose and throat and said, still has "allergies" (at such a young age) it's hard to determine without more advance testing what allergens were causing him to sneeze but this time around, the doctor said NO benadryl , use children's Zyrtec... and WOW what a difference, no more sneezing, running nose, mucus.. and it's not like benadryl which can make you moody and sleepy.. in addition, they also gave up a nosespray (Nasonex) the two combined have pretty much cleared up the mucus and cold like symptoms... if you need the name of the doc we went to, let me know. they specialize in allergies and general medicine

Keep in mind that DAIRY products create a lot of mucus.

I would try the saline nasal spray. It's quick and you wouldn't have to hold her down. It's supposedly dissolves the snot so that it comes out.
