Hi,

My Family and I (2 children 9 & 4) are getting ready to move out to Queen Creek from California and I just wanted to know what to expect as far as weather, housing, employment, Doctors, Restaurants, Bugs! I just read that a woman and several others of you are experiencing problems with bug bites. Why?? What kind of bugs are they or out there. Just looking for any and all info. so as to know what to expect in our upcoming move. Oh, also do you have any recommendations to good Health Care for Low Income Families. Thank you.

What can I do next?

I live in Gilbert, just north of Queen Creek. I am from CA as well. The weather is VERY hot. In July - August, it ranges from 103-115 degrees. You may not have this issue, but summers have been lonely for me....it is hard to meet friends out here - very religious and people make friends based on their religion. Also, many people from AZ have a network of friends and are not willing to let you in their "group". If you join clubs (MOms club or church group), you will have an easier time. During the summer, people are inside, so you don't see many neighbors. The rest of the year is pleasant for weather (Oct. - May). Housing prices are low right and it is a nice time to buy. Be careful of Queen Creek , it is built on a flood plane, so check with your realator before you buy. We sometimes have a problem with mosquitos after we have monsoons, which are bad rain storms. The rain collects places and the mosquitos breed, but that is shortlived - we just put budspray on. We do have scorpions. They are harmless, except for one type - the Bark Scorpion. Sometimes it can feel like a bee sting, but if a person is allergic, they may have a bad reaction - numbness. Some homes have a problem with them and some don't. The hospitals have the antivenom for the children. The EAst Valley has a lot of things to do for your children, especially if you are homeschooling them - there are recreational programs during the day to supplement your curriculum. There are a lot of employment opportunities- big corporations like Honeywell, Intel and Google. There are lots of malls with stores to work at. There are lots of restaurants, kids friendly and fast food. If you have any other questions, please let me know. I will be happy to help you.

The weather is hot in the summer & nice the rest of the year... I live in Queentucky (what I call queen creek) since its FAR from EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rentals are cheap, (im a Realtor) We are getting Dr & restaurants slowly but surely. They stopped the building of the Lowes & SUper Target that was supposed to be up across from 1 of the 2 walmarts in QN CRK.. Employment- well that depends on what you are looking for...Bugs???? we have bugs like the rest of the planet...When its gonna rain the flys come out, yes on mosquitos & spiders...rest of them dont worry about. Thats why we have pest control anyway. AHCCCS is what you should look up.
If you need my help for a rental, it won't cost you anything. Tell me what your looking for & I can email some info.

Good Luck
Kimberly

Hello.
I live in Queen Creek & work in Gilbert. We live in Circle Cross Ranch in Queen Creek. We have lived out there for a little over 3 years, previously iving in Mesa. We really enjoy out here now that things are being built closer to us. We have never had any problems with scorpions neither have my neighbors. I guess we are lucky. Our development is very family orientated. The schools are ok. We have 1 son in 2nd grade & it seems to be going alright. If you are planning on homeschooling, my cousin who also lives in Queen Creek Homeschools her 3 kids. Ages 12, 8 & 4. I can give you her info if you would like & she can help you meet other families that home school & help you get with a good homeschool group. So far everyone is right on with the housing being cheaper in Queen Creek right now with the market & there are a ton of homes for rent. We actually have a cute 4 bedroom down the street from us for rent. :) Well if you need any other info please send me a message. Good luck with your move.

I have lived in Queen Creek for about a year and a half now and I love it out here. To answer your questions. Its hot but you are moving here at a good time of year since the major heat is over. We don't receive a lot of rain but in the summer we get some major monsoon storms whipping through here that can dump a lot of rain very quickly along with major wind. There are a ton of cheap houses out here right now because of the horrible mortgage crises we have going on and if you are not in the market to buy there are a ton for rent also. There are several new Doctor's offices out here as well as a few urgent care facilities. We have your typical fast food places out here and several decent sit down type places. New stuff is coming out here all of the time but we still lack a lot of the major chain/franchise type restaurants that a lot of people like because the area is so new. As for your question about bugs. I have never personally had a problem with bug bites but there are more bugs this year because of the rain. Mosquitos typically don't some out until about sundown when it cools off. There are scorpions but I have only come across two since we have lived here and only one of them was in my house. I have heard that if you keep the crickets out of your house then the scorpions won't come in because the crickets are what they like to eat. I think the biggest gripe people who live out here have is that there is such a long commute into the phoenix area if you work over there. The road system out here is playing catch up because of all the recent growth in this area so there is a lot of road construction going on. I love the small town feel of the area yet it isn't very far away to any type of shopping you could want. My biggest gripe about he area is the schools. Try to get your kids into a charter school because the public schools out here are horrible for the most part.

Hi Arelene, welcome to Arizona! You are coming at a great time, weather wise. And house wise - it's name your price season for housing, especially in Queen Creek. Just to add a little something about the major mosquitos and bugs this year... because there are so many foreclosures and people walking away from their homes, there is an issue with "green" pools which turns into a major breeding ground for them. That and the wetter than normal monsoon this year was great for all the little buggies to multiply and replenish the earth! Good luck on your move!

Hi! The bugs you are hearing about are mosquitos. For some reason parts of AZ now have crazy mosquitos, and Queen Creek is one of them. It's not all the time but something to be aware of. As far as the health insurance goes, I'm not aware of anything specifically for low income, but when I had to have health insurance outside of an employer, I used www.azlifewise.com. They were great. Happy moving!
