Getting Pregnant with a Girl!

My husband and I are planning on to start trying to have our 3rd child in about 2 months when my Birth Control is up. We have two boys already, one that will be 3 in May and one that will be 1 in July. We are wanting our next and possibly last child to be a girl. Is there anything you can do to ensure on having a girl? I've heard of some different things but it was awhile ago and I don't really remember and don't even know if they actually worked or not, never tried them. If anyone has ever tried certain things for a specific sex of the baby what were they and did they actually work! We are wanting to have our last child , but have them all close together and have the last child a little girl since we already have 2 boys. Any suggestions or knowledge helps! Thanks!

Several years ago one of my friends wanted to have a boy. She already had a girl. She went to a general bookstore and found this book, I don't remember the exact name or author but it was 2 books in 1. One side was how to achieve a son, flip it over and the other side was how to achieve a daughter. She bought it and started reading. I already had 3 sons so she questioned me about things that both my husband and I ate, drank and general habits. To my amazement the things that were suggested in the book were things that we had done. I remember my husband eating bananas and drinking a lot of coffee. She said the foods that were suggested for a girl were things she ate. My cousin at the time had 4 girls, one set of twins. I asked her about foods she ate and they were in line with what the book suggested. Good Luck!

One caution on the whole switch husband thing - Yes, I know this is a joke, and I'm continuing it! My mom had three girls, then divorced, married again and had three more girls. She jokes that she even tried changing husbands to get a boy and it didn't work!!!

But now she has 19 grandkids and 13 of them are boys!

I totally understand your desire! Our first was a girl. She made my parents' fourth grandaughter. When we decided to try for our second, I wanted more than anything to give my parents a grandson and I wanted my grandmother to have a great grandson (as she had 7 great grandaughters). The last boy born on my side was 18yrs old and it was my cousin! So, I went online and studied up on all the goofy, crazy myths that say would make a boy! I mean goofy stuff....drink a coca cola first and do it this way to waiting until a specific ovulation time. You know what...........what's the harm in having a little fun and trying all the goofy tricks?? =0) We got our boy. But, you have to remember that it really is 50/50 and you know you'll love a 3rd baby girl just as much....but, it's fun to do the goofy stuff b/c you just never know. =0) Have fun and keep us posted! Keep a light heart about it.

A year ago or so some researchers released a study in which they showed that women who were on a restricted diet for a while before getting pregnant were more likely to have a girl.

You can also check out the "Chinese calendar" which supposedly predicts when you'll have a boy or a girl depending on your Chinese age (when you were *conceived*, not *born*) at the time your child was (is to be) conceived. It claims 99% accuracy, but other people say it's closer to 80%. I've figured it out for myself and my sisters and many friends whom I knew their ages and their children's ages, and it seemed to be fairly accurate.

But it's not a bad thing to have all boys! My husband has no sisters and 3 brothers; one of my friends has only 4 boys and always wanted a girl, but is of course very happy with her 4 rambunctious blessings.

I would encourage you not to find out by ultrasound if you're going to be having a boy or a girl -- you will be more likely to be disappointed in the doctor's office as opposed to the delivery room, if you find out your baby is a boy. Please don't reject your baby before he's even born!

If you really want a girl and only a girl, you can always consider adopting a girl -- many different cultures (such as China) highly favor boys over girls, so there are always many girls available for over-seas adoption in such countries.

I've heard once you have two of the same sex, it's an 85% chance of having the same. We're expecting our 3rd boy, which is what I've always wanted... not sure what the experts say, but, I'm always on top when we conceive :) maybe position has something to do with it??!! good luck!!

Buy the book "Choosing the Sex of your Baby" by Dr. Shettles. I used to work with his duaghter in law and she gave me the book. She sucessfully used it, several of my friends had success and I had a girl after 2 boys by following the technique. I found that you should take and record your basil temp for atleast 3 months before trying to get pregnant. I used the ovulation predictor tests to make sure I was NOT ovulating and then stopped having sex before I ovulated. Good Luck!

These responses are so great! I have been laughing just reading!

I was going to give the same suggestion about the timing of your ovulation, girls being the "slow swimmers" and all, but you've heard that 10+ times now!

I had 2 boys and thought I was DONE, and while still nursing my second son, I assume I would've resumed my cycle around his 10-month mark, but never got my period back, and found out when he was almost 14-months old that I was "unexpectedly expecting" again! We had only THOUGHT we were done - but I had always prayed that if I got KU'd again (the first two were also conceived while on BC!) that it would be a girl, b/c I didn't know if I could handle 3 boys! So I had NO planning input into getting my little girl, except that I PRAYED PRAYED PRAYED and God gave me what I asked for! Doesn't always happen that way. My cousin had FOUR boys, really praying and hoping for a girl with #3 & #4, and once she and her youth pastor hubby started raising money and getting paperwork together to adopt a little girl, she found out she was pregnant, and FINALLY got her girl! Her 4 boys are all so sweet, and cute, and smart, and of course, you will love whatever you get - plenty of people never get what they think they want, and some like myself get what they always wanted, but it may not be all it's cracked up to be! ;)

If you are successful, message me - my BF and her hubby have had 3 girls, and were going to be done, but she thinks she wants ONE more and naturally they'd like a boy this time. So she is reading up on how to "cook" a boy!

Oh and I did just read something about foods the mother and father eat preconception and during the first week or so after that can affect the sex of the baby. It was a Yahoo news headline around the New Year, but who knows if that actually has any basis...

Best of luck- have fun *TRYING*!

Dear G.:

I'm not sure there is a working way to do that. I wanted a girl and had three boys. I lost one in between the first and second one. Be happy if it's a third boy. Just be happy it is healthy!

You and your husband must stand on your heads and 'do it' in the shower - with it running COLD water exactly 12.5 days after the start of your LMP! LOL JUST KIDDING!!

I'm 'Mom' to 4 adults (2 boys, 2 girls), and our oldest (daughter) has 2 boys and a girl. I don't know HOW we got such a good variety, but I really enjoyed reading your responses-- AND I hope you get your girl --HOWEVER you do it!

Hey G.,

Honestly, it is all about what God wants to give you. :) Trust that it is the right thing.

But, I will say the chinese birth calendar is usually correct. You can find it online.

and ditto about the fast and slow swimmers. :)

Btw the lady who said switch husbands that was HILARIOUS!

Good luck!

I know there are mixed feelings about the chinese calendar but I'll swear by it. I too had two sons and was desperately hoping for a daughter. I looked it up and we found the next month it said we should conceive in order to have a girl. Sure enough, we had our daughter from that pregnancy!!!! Good luck to you!!

the only thing that will do that is spending thousands of dollars to have those genes in the egg. no position or anything like that will cause you to have a boy over girl its just whatever little man swims the best. good luck with that girl!

it has to do with when you ovulate. im pretty sure if you wait till the last day your more likely to have a girl. Check out the parenting website, I think thats where I read the info. The chinese also have an old wise tale about how 2 predict the sex of a child but its been 3 years since I heard it. Maybe try a google search. Good luck.

None of my business, but wait another yr. That will give you baby the nurturing he needs. There is a book called, coosing the sex of your baby. I used it and got my girl. It has to do with the timing of intercourse.

I know this sounds very odd, but I saw that just this month they started doing genetics testing where you can choose what sex you want your baby to be. They even have it to where you can choose eye and hair color, etc., which in my opinion is very extreme...but as far as the sex goes...it is possible to GUARANTEE. I don't know how much it costs, but you may want to talk to a genetics place or a fertility place. I saw it on the TV show "The doctors". Their website is thedoctorstv.com if you want to go on there and search for it. There is a chat forum that may interest you. Good luck!
