Getting Pregnant While Taking the Pill?

I never miss a pill and take it the same time every night, but am having some major pregnancy symptoms, very similar to my first pregnancy. I'm still a week and a half away from my period starting, but I'm feeling worried and don't want to hurt my "possible baby" by continuing to take the pill. Has anyone out there gotten pregnant while on the pill? If so, do you know if continuing to take the pill could harm the fetus?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I got my period so no baby, not that that would have been a bad thing. Thanks for the input and advice mommies! It really helped ease my mind.

Assuming you have regular 28-day cycles while on the pill, I think it's highly unlikely that you're pregnant. If you're still 10 days from a period, you're only 18 days into your cycle. If memory serves, it takes a good week for the embryo to implant in the uterus and for your body to start producing the pregnancy hormones which trigger pregnancy symptoms and provide positive pregnancy tests. That said, I think you would have had to have conceived at about day 10 or 11 of your cycle, which is extremely early. You might take a test now and in a week to calm your nerves, but I bet you're in the clear!

I've never have gotten pregnant on Birth Control Pills but me personally would take a pregnancy test to make sure and if you are for sure contact your ob/gyn and I wouldn't take it until I talk to her/him because I know that there is a possibility that it can harm the fetus and that is a risk I wouldn't take or if in doubt I wouldn't take it until you were 100% sure.
It is possible to get pregnant while on the pill, I have some friends that have on more than one occassion.

Good Luck and I hope this helps!

Not to scare anyone, but I have had three pregnancies while on the pill. The first one went fine, the second one I lost (God's choice, was NOT good timing) and the last one... well, that was a litte rough. However, my situation was quite a bit different than most. To make a long story short, if you are concerned then take a home test. A couple of them maybe. If the pill normally works for you, then you are most likely not pregnant. The pill never worked for me, but due to insurance reasons, my preferred method of birth control was not available and the pill was my only choice.

Better safe than sorry.

I was on the pill when I got pregnant with my daughter and didn't find out until I was 8 weeks along, she came out perfectly healthy.

J.,

Were you on anti-biotics or something that would reduce the strength of your pill? If not and you have regularly taken your pill, it is unlikely that you are pregnant. There are several things that can cause you to have early pregnancy symptoms: flu, ear infection, certain medications, hormone surges, etc... Still, since you cannot be for sure that you are not pregnant until after your period is missed, stop your pill for the rest of this month. The hormones in the pill can cause miscarriage.

Take care of yourself and keep us posted on what happens. Good luck!

Allison is exactly right. She wrote down precisly what I want to tell you. Also, when you never miss one pill it is very reliable, 99%. So highly unlikely you're pregnant. But never say never, so do a test.
I'm not so sure the pill harms the fetus, there are so many women (who are sloppy with taking the pill) who got pregnant, but also got their periodes because of the pill and only discovered it when they were 5,6,7,months. The baby's are perfect healty.
Anyhow, good luck!
