Getting Crayon Out of Carpet

Any ideas for how to get fuschia colored crayon out of a white carpet? D.D. decided to write her name on her bedroom floor in 2 foot tall capital letters. Someday I will look back on this and think it's really funny. But not right now!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I'm going to try the iron and paperbag trick first. I'm Trying to avoid buying any new cleaning products as I'm ridding our house of chemicals although I know that Melaleuca is tea tree oil so I'm interested in finding out more about that. I'll let you all know how it turns out! Thanks for all the great suggestions!

My only suggesion is to use a hot iron with newspaper on the floor and it will heat the crayon up and pull up. Or call a carpet cleaning place to ask.

Take a paper bag and place it over a portion of the crayon. Iron it with a very hot iron and it will soak into the paper bag. Just move the bag to a new spot and repeat. This is great for any wax product in carpet.

My 1st thought was to just leave it there, she is proud of her artwork and there will be SO MANY spills from juice etc... that after awhile you will either need to get it removed or professionally cleaned. Carpets don't last long in my kids rooms!!! Good luck,

J. mom to a 16 and 9 year old with carpets that need changing because our rabbit likes to EAT them.

My son spilled red pop on my carpet and this worked to get it out. I am thinking it might work on crayon also. Put 2 drops of dawn dish detergent in warm water. Dampen a white cloth with the mixture and set it on the stain. Set your iron to the lowest heat and set it on the cloth. It should lift the stain out.............try a small area first

omg...I do not have any idea...but I am cracking up. I know you're frustrated right now and I'm sorry...but you just made my day (I'm in a lot of pain and having surgery tomorrow so I needed a good laugh). Don't be angry with me but it is quite humorous. Good luck with your situation. Even though I'm laughing...I wish I had a suggestion for you. Someone will though!!!!

My daughter did this once - not quite as big! You can check the crayola website for instructions. They are very specific. If the crayon wasn't crayola, you might try searching for the manufacturer and see if they have anything.

Good Luck!

I worked on rental homes for years. I found that straight PineSol works great on crayon. The Magic Eraser sponges work well on walls, but I don't know how they would work on carpet. You will have to scrub hard with either product.
Good Luck!

this is just a guess...but crayons are like wax...and i spilled a red candle on carpet once...and did the paper bag and iron trick? it worked...not sure if it'll help the situation or make it worse?
my husband installs floor covering, he said whatever you try though, do it in a small area, and wait a few days to see the results...some chemicals might actually "eat" the carpet or the glue that keeps the carpet attached to the backing...

Crayons are wax, whether Crayola or not. I too had wax candle on my grandmothers hand sewn quilt! The iron method worked great. I did however not use a paper bag, have never heard of that. I just used the super absorb paper towels. Hope this helps.

Try "Goof Off". I used it and got red paint out of white carpet, and you can't tell it was ever there. It also removes things like crayon...so give it a try. My advice...don't RUB the spot...just squirt on the "Goof Off" and blot with a clean, white rag. (Maybe test it on an inconspicuous spot of your carpet first...in a corner, under a chair...just to be safe!)
Good luck...L.

My Mom used to volunteer at our church (cleaning the church after mass) and they used the iron/paper bag method to get candle wax out of the carpet. I know other ppl already suggested that, but I just wanted to confirm that it does work. Put the brown paper bag over the crayon spot, hot iron over the bag and it should melt and wick the crayon onto the paper bag. Good luck...hope it works for you!

J.,

Boy this bring back memories for me. I left a fuschia colored crayon in my pocket that got into the laundry and all over my older sisters white graduation dress. Money was tight at our house so my mom tried everything she could think of...until she thought of silver polish.

It will take some scrubbing and time but she did get out the crayon out of the dress and several other articles that were "colored".

It guess it worked because candle wax and crayons are made from well...wax.

Good luck!

In the laundry aisle or housewares, there's a brand of stain removers. Little yellow plastic squeeze bottles. Can also be found at, like, Michael's, JoAnn's, Hancock fabrics. Anyway, there's one specifically for crayon. Other than that, there's always the telephone to call the purple truck people (Hagopian) and they'll be happy to come out and clean for you.

I have a multi-colored berber carpet and when on of my 3 boys gets something on it I have always used Clorax Clean-up. Its got a small amount of bleach in it but never has discolored or harmed my carpet.
Good luck.
Still unsure, call the carpet store who installed it, or any carpet cleaning centers.

You could try Awesome. It is sold at dollar stores in the Lansing area. Magic eraser might also take it out. I have a cat and it cleans up his stains and you wouldn't even know it was there in the first place. You would want to let it set for a few minutes then scrub with sponge or scrubber brush. Good luck.
