Hi there,
I have been a stay-at-home mom for the past 3 years and would like to go back to work part-time. I feel as if employers dont give me a chance as I have been out of work for a while. Does anyone else have this type of thing going on? Would love to hear from you.

What can I do next?

HI A.! I have also been home for 3 years with my kids and I am returing to work this week!!! A little scary! I found a job, or should I say was handed one (a friend refered me) that is part time working M-F anywhere between 8 - 5, basically making own hours doing merchandising. The pay isn't great, but for the flexability it is more than I have been making being at home! My kids are in school all day now, so I wanted something to do while they were at school. Lots of companies use merchandisers, maybe you can try looking for a job like this! Good luck! Oh yeah and it is not in an office, I will go to different stroes in my area to check that our products are out like they are supossed to and do displays ect... SOunds interesting! AGAIN GOOD LUCK!

It depends on what your skill set is... If you are looking for corporate work, look for a temp agency that can place you. Once you are in a company as a temp employee and show how valuable you are, you can start asking about permanent and maybe even part time.

If not corporate work, see if you can volunteer in an area you would like to get into. That way you can beef up your resume.

It is hard to get back into the work force...but possible. Expect 6 mos plus before the doors begin to open again...

I went to work for Nelson staffing when I went back to work. Although I was only on maternity leave for 3 months, they placed me rather quickly. I thought it was perfect because I could work for a few weeks take a few days off, etc. They test your skills so the time that you have been out of work doesn't matter as long as your skills shine through. It's worth a try.

A.! I have just started back to work again after a 2.5 year hiatus myself. I am an independent rep for an amazing skin care line called RODAN + FIELDS Dermatologists. They are the 2 ladies who created Proactiv Solutions. This job is very lucrative and you can do it while managing your family responsibilities. Hi A., I hope you have found a part time position that works for you. I just wanted to update my reply to you to let you know that I met 10-15 people at my Holiday Boutique yesterday who are looking for ways to earn extra money and to have a "Plan B" just in case something happens with their jobs. I am inviting people to come to my home for my Referral Co-op "Coffee Breaks". Over a cup of coffee or tea (cookies will be served! :o), I can explain how with very little out of pocket expense, you can learn to maximize/leverage the very generous compensation plan of XanGo to build a profitable home-based businessand help others to do so as well. It is not a big time commitment for you because I have the meetings in my home, and you simply "refer" others looking for additional income for a "Plan B" to me. If you love to help people, now is the time to find out how you can do that as a XanGo authorized distributor. With the job market being what it is currently, many more people are looking at network marketing as a risk-free and recession-proof way to supplement income and qualify for other rewards that XanGo offers. I would like to invite you to come to my home in San Jose (or I can come to yours if more convenient) to go over this easy to learn system to improve your life as well as the lives of others! Sincerely, V. Garnese XanGo 1K ____@____.com

sigh.. i'm there with you. why is our current job not looked at as a job? 24 hours a day, seven days a week and no vacations or sick days. but no one looks at that as a job. i've been tempted to add it to my resume. even if it only makes people smile when they see it. but i don't want to not be take seriously. so i haven't. :) stay strong.

It's very common. You have a large gap in your resume of unemployment... no matter the reason. With things being as competitive as they are right now... that's a difficult thing for an employer to skip over. You're goign to have to start at the bottom and work your way up. Take what you can for 6 months and then try moving up again so that you have some newer experience in the world. Good luck!

I was a SAHm from the time my daughter was 18 months until she was 4 years old, and it took me about 6 months to find a poor paying part-time job. I stayed there for about 18 months, and left due to issues with management (which i was a part of by then). I have been looking since May of this year with no luck, and i feel that a lot of it is becasue I chose to stay home with my daughter for so long.

I wish you lots of luck on your search!

For now, I am embracing being a SAHM/homemaker :)

L.

Happy (most of the time) SAHM to a wonderful, bright, and beautiful 5 yr old first grader!
