Does anyone have any good ideas about vacation or getaway locations within a 3 hour or so driving distance from Plainfield? We are interested in going away for a few days with our son at the end of the month but are having trouble coming up with destinations. Thanks!

I second South Haven, MI. (www.southhavenmi.com) Just north of South Haven are some other beach towns with gorgeous, sandy beaches: Saugatuck & Douglas, MI. (www.saugatuck.com) Besides the beaches in all the towns, there are local u-pick fruit farms (blueberries, apples, peaches, plums, blackberries, etc.) which my kids love. There are also lots of cute shops and fun restaurants in the towns as well.

You might also look into Warren Dunes, MI (www.dnr.state.mi.us/parksandtrails/ParksandTrailsInfo.asp...) for camping and hiking and the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore (www.nps.gov/indu/) for the same.

Enjoy!

We just took the kids to Springfield... I know the baby is a little young but it was very educational to go to the Governors Mansion, The Capitol Bldg. See President Lincolns home and then lincolns tomb. It was very fun and there was a restaurant calle dthe pizza machine and they gave the kids dough to play with while we waited. It was a fun getaway!

I do agree with the other moms Michigan is pretty and Saugatuck can be a nice relaxing place to visit.

Perhpas the Wisconsin Dells or Door County, WI. There are smaller water parks at the dells that if you son enjoys water might be fun. There is a new Tanger outlet at the dells too. Indianapolis also has a nice zoo and children's museum. If you come up with a destitaion check out tripadvisor.com for suggestion of things to do. good luck

I don't know how far away the Dells are but if Eric is anything like Emma he'd love the water parks there!

Madison, WI is a nice getaway...you can stay in a hotel with a pool, they have a free zoo, a children's museum....lots of good places to eat...it's less expensive than Chicago. I am a SAHM of 4 children and we go there a couple of times a year...we love it!!! Good Luck,

I've been contending with the same thing and I found a place in Lake Geneva that looks great. Some of my coworkers have heard of it, too, and said it has gotten great reviews. We're going there this Tuesday through Friday so I can let you know how it is when we get back. We got a really good online deal where we receive $50 in dining credits each day we're there. Here's the website - www.timberridgeresort.com
Otherwise you can go onto http://www.enjoyillinois.com/3-day/getaways-family.aspx.

Good luck!

We just went to South Haven, MI this past weekend. It was beautiful. Wonderful beach area and cute downtown. It's only two hours away from Bolingbrook.
