I am 24 weeks pregnant with a singleton this time. I was diagnosed earlier this pregnancy being that I had gestational diabetes with the twins. With the twin pregnancy 3 years ago I controlled it totally with diet. This pregnancy I am doing that as well but the last two weeks my morning level (fasting) has been in the 90's.....which 95 is you have to be put on insulin. I have not hit that mark yet but 4 days out of the last two weeks have hit 94. I go see Dr. Higby on Wednesday who is monitoring me this time for the gest. diabetes.... .not sure what he is going to tell me probably that I am getting close to insulin levels....UGH! I walk 2-3 times a day....try after every meal to get out. My diet is so strict that I have only cheated once and when I did I walked extra and my levels were the best they had ever been. I hate needles and the thought of having to give myself a shot makes me terrified!!! !! Anyone that has dealt with this have any suggestions? Should I walk 30 minutes after I eat, 30 minutes before I test, rest 10 minutes before I test......anything that might help would be great.

What can I do next?

I have to agree with Lisa...if I didn't eat my bedtime snack then my levels were higher in the morning. I read somewhere about why they are higher without the snack before bed, but it has been a few years and have forgotten exactly why. So, make sure you get that protein and carb mix at bedtime and see if it helps. I would also agree if only your morning numbers were high (and 95 doesn't seem that high) that insulin wouldn't be needed, yet. Hang in there!!

I had gestational diabetes with my first as well. I was also high in the mornings. My diabetes nurse told me to have a snack before bedtime. I would eat wheat thins or something with at least 15 carbs in it. I only exercised 20-30 minutes a day on an exercise bike.
I would be very surprised if you went on shots just by being high in the AM.
Hang in there!

I have had the gestational diabetes with both of my children (now 4 years old and 5 months old). The first pregnancy I was able to control it completely with diet and excerise. For my second, I was put on insulin (by Dr Higby, who is AWESOME). I was not happy about having to shoot myself either but the shots aren't like you think. They are in a ready to go tube. All you do is set the dose, put it against your tummy and push a button. The "tube" does the rest. The needles are really tiny (only a inch or two) and it doesn't hurt any more than the finger sticks. The only thing is that the insulin itself burns the first couple time when you start doing it. Other than that....it's not that bad.
Think about it this way.....you would do anything for your baby right. It's only a temporary thing. Dr. Higby's office has a very good class that you take on the shots as well (like the one you took for the diet) before you actually start. Good luck and God Bless.
I just found out I'm expecting again and my OB said I will most likely have the GD again. Maybe I'll see you at Dr Higby's office.

I thought the finger pricking was much worse than the insulin shot. Dr. Higby is a great doctor and he will take good care of you and your baby.
