Gentle Dentist in Westland, Canton Area

Does anyone have a gentle dentist they LOVE in the Westland or Canton area? I had negative experiences as a child, got over them with a wonderful dentist as a teenager and young adult, then moved here and haven't found anyone I'm comfortable with. I know it's a business, but I don't want to feel like a number or a baby because I have a low pain tolerance. I don't want my issues to feed into my kids either, so someone who is a family dentist would be great!

What can I do next?

Hi H.,
I am a mom but also a dental assistant. I worked for a dentist in that area for a few years and he is wonderful. His name is Dr. Richard Stec. He is on Ford Rd in Canton. I cant remember the phone number but you will find him online in the yellow pages. He is very gental and is soft spoken as well. I think you will find him to be a great dentist. He does not due unnessary work either. You tell him S. Rice says hello! Good Luck!

I can SO relate to your issue with dentists, and after many miserable years as a child and teenager (with braces)with my old dentist, I found a new one...and he is wonderful! His name is Dr. William Kelly, and his private practice is in Canton, at the northwest corner of Cherry Hill and Lilley. The phone number there is ###-###-####. He is a lovely man, and a very gentle dentist who is sensitive to his patients' needs. We've been patients for several years, now. My daughter, who is 10, LOVES going to his office (even though she's had to have a couple of cavities filled there!).

I've also had extensive work done there, and he has made me comfortable to the point that I have practically no anxiety when I need to have anything done. A FAR cry from my earlier experiences with my old dentist! I've even referred my father to them, and he's switched to them from the place he's gone for the past 50 years!

Dr. Kelly has a beautiful waiting room with an awesome area for kids, and has a wall of fame where he posts snapshots of kids who've had cavity-free check-ups. After their appointments, kids get to pick a prize out of a big treasure chest.

If you end up going there, and you love it, tell them I referred you. (We don't have dental insurance, and there's a small break they give for referrals!)

Best wishes,
S. Clarke

PS

I noticed another mom referred a different dentist complex also on Cherry Hill and Lilley...there IS one on the opposite corner -- the southeast corner of Canton and Lilley. Dr. Kelly's office is on the northwest corner!

I would also check to see the list that is provided by your insurance company (or those here). Some dentists also understand that you are interviewing them - go in and see how the waiting room feels, as well as the staff and the dentist(s) in the office.

This is what I have done to see if I am comfortable in a new location - and I also have a low pain tolerance. You need to keep in mind that they understand this. If not, then you know to seek someone else.

I love my dentist and my 5 yr old loves going there too.

I have very sensitive teeth so going to the dentisit can be painful for me but I have rarely had any pain in the 6 years I've been going there. If you decide to go, try to get in with Claudia the hygentist when you are not seeing Dr. Jacobson (sometimes she'll actually clean my teeth)!

Romulus family dental is a great place. I live in Plymouth and drive there. Super nice facility even though the location isn't perfect. Jennifer Simons is an excellent hygenist!!!! My 3 year old loves her too!!
