We are planning our girls' second bday (March) & want to know what's been successful w/you moms! We are just having a low-key get-together @ the park w/a few kids their age. Are there any planned activities/games that you can recommend for this age group?

i wouldnt worry about games. maybe bring some stickers and let them decorate some plain color party hats. with it being at a park there will be plenty of entertainment. we did a small bubble machine with my daughters 2nd birthday (she is also a march baby). do plan a whole lot kids this age just dont sit still long enough :)

The party will be at a park... and at that age, they will entertain themselves at the park pretty much.

You could have a treasure hunt... a pinata that can easily be cracked open by 2 year olds, bubbles, and just having balls around is fun.

You could also have a huge poster board too, with tempera paint... and have each child put their hand-print on it and the parent paint their name on it... as a "souvenir" for your child for their birthday memories... and then you could hang it on the wall at home. And of course you write the date of their birthday party on it and their ages, so your girls will have something cute to remember their party/birthday with years later.

good luck,
Susan

I didn't have any planned games at my first daughter's 2nd birthday, which was low-key at our house with a couple of kids her age. I think that if you are at the park, the kids will enjoy playing outside. It's hard to keep 2-yr olds attention long enough to make it through a game unless it's ring-around-the-rosie or something like that. I'd go for some bubbles or even a bubble machine if you can find one of those (since little ones adore bubbles!!) and some fun toddler songs for dancing if you have a portable cd player to bring along. You could make a game out of dancing if you wanted to like doing the actions to the Wheels on the Bus or "Freeze Dancing" (stop when the music stops)! Have fun!

I 2nd Jacy's advice. The playground at the park is the primary entertainment. You could also do pin-the-tail on the donkey (many themed variations of this game at Party city). If the girls have a favorite character you can theme it based on that, but otherwise just bright colors for tablecloths or streamers or balloons. With twins you could have 2 pinatas--I've seen that done too. The theme can be "2" for age 2 and for twins!

it's not really a game, but it's something that entertained my son... a puppet show :)

Hi!
I just planned my daughters 2nd birthday party and we had it at Lake Poway (with playground). I also had a hard time deciding on activities but soon realized it's difficult to do with small children with the attention span of a flea. ;) So....we went with a cupcake theme and we had the kids decorate their own cupcakes and we also had a pinata. The playground came in handy also! It worked out great and I didn't have to stress over games and prizes. Have fun making memories!!!!!
