Game for iMac That Is Fun and Mentally Challenging? (8 Year Old Boy)

Can anyone recommend an app (game) for the iMac that would be fun and mentally challenging for a bright 8-year-old boy?

He has Angry Birds, but that is not much of a challenge.

He likes Bad Piggies, as that does make him think more.

I have heard of cut the rope, but we do not have it yet.

He gets 30 minutes of video game time a day on the iMac, no more.
We do not have an iPad.

Thanks.
S.

Minecraft, just don't be surprised he gets a little obsessed. There are some great books out there on it, so he can read those when not playing.

My 8 year old loves a Rube Goldberg machine app on his ipod, it's also available for an iMac. It's called Rube Works and was recommended by one of his teachers. Basically, it gives you a starting point and a desired outcome and a bunch of tools. you have to figure out to put the tools together to make that happen. they are fun silly logic puzzles.

For example, a guy is hot and wants a fan to turn on. the tools are bunch of pulleys, a saucer of milk, a cat, and a plant. what can you design?

Candy Crush Saga and 2038 are both good.

Minecraft is very good but addictive! The books are good and really help them think and apply what they've read.

Cut the rope is really terrific. My 5yo likes it, too. Physics, cause/effect, and strategy.

Candy crush is also great for seeing patterns and learning strategy.

Zombie math is really fun for getting fast at sums. Sushi monster is another one if your kiddo gets way too stressed out by the zombies.

I don't know if these are available for the iMac. They are on my ipad.
