Galveston - Moody Gardens

We are thinking about going to Galveston for a few days this summer. I've heard about Moody Gardens, but it is expensive ($45!!). You can buy tickets for individual areas of it, such as the rain forest pyramid.

Wondering if anyone has been there, and if so would you recommend a certain area to go to (or should we avoid it all together?)

Thanks!

We went to Galveston last summer, my kids loved it (7 and 4).
We stayed at Moody Gardens hotel and it was very nice and very kid friendly! The aquarium is well worth the money, it is so much better than the Dallas aquarium!! We also went to the rain forest it was good, but not as good as the aquarium!!

Have Fun!!!!

We have been to the rainforest and the aquarium - both were outstanding! My kids were 10 and 11 at the time if memory serves. As to whether it is worth is, I don't know the answer to that ...... can only say that it was first class. We went with free tickets from the hospital and my kids spent that summer having neurosurgery. I adore Galveston - the beach, the harbor......we really liked the harbor tours - the one with the dolphins.....and the outdoor performances (plays/musicals) are awesome as well......Galveston is and always has been one of my favorite places......hth

Dear L.,
Take your beautiful little girls to see the butterfly release in the Moody Gardens Rain Forest - you can skip the rest or take a walking tour of the free areas - but do not bypass the Rain Forest - it is worth every penny of the admission and I promise your girls will be enchanted with every square inch of this phenomenal attraction! The Moody family has a huge history of providing many communities with the best of culture - from gardens to theaters - the Rain Forrest is unequalled in my opinion.
Prayers for a Peaceable Kingdom

It is worth it and so much more than you can imagine
you will never be able to do all they have they even have movies w the 3 d glasses like you are the dolphin swimming thru the ocean......there is even a beach water park w slides etc if you want to take a break and play outside for a bit its a whole day its FABULOUS! The thing is you need to wear your bathing suits w sundresses or something so you can rinse off and go back for more! I took my son to it several years in a row and he still talks about it! They have GREAT fuji picture spots marked all through the pyramids so have your camera!

My husband and I take our kids to Galveston every summer. We always go to Moody Gardens. We've never bought the entire day pass because it is so expensive, but there are always certain attractions that our kids want to see or do. It is a really nice place and since there isn't just a huge amount of things to do in Galveston, it's nice to go to MG for one day. You could opt to go to Schlitterbahn, the tickets aren't as expensive and a day of fun in the sun is always a winner among kids. I was just on the Moody Gardens website the other day and they have a little beach like place for kids that seemed really fun. The IMAX theater there is really fun too. 3 years ago we saw a dinosaur movie in the IMAX theater and wore 3D glasses, my son loved it. Last year we saw a penguin exhibit which was neat. This year I think there is a Titanic exhibit among other things. The aquarium there is always fun too. Hope you guys have fun!

Re: Moody Gardens
Went there last summer with my 4 grandchildren (ages 10-3) My recommendation is that for the cost it's VERY costly! Pyramid garden was very hot and steamy...I was the only one enjoying the plants...sweating A LOT! Children were bored. There were a few birds and flowers, but not enough to keep their interest. There was a film, but the show was sold out and we would have had to come back an hour or so later. The boat ride was short and a non-event (also hot out on the water). The beach area was CROWDED, and the public beach that you can go to is free! All in all....it was a lot of $$$ for not much. What we DID do that was the highlight of our trip, that STILL has the children talking about (and we got some marvelous photos) was taking the ferry ride over to Bolivar Island. We got out of the car during the ride, and went up on the deck and took broken crackers and popcorn and fed the seagulls that naturally follow the ferry. The little ones just threw the crumbs up in the air and the birds swooped down to catch them. The laughing and squealing was GREAT! Have fun!

We went to Moody Gardens for Spring Break and though the entertainment was fun for the kids, we were stuck in an old room which was completely below par. I think it's a great place for the kids, but ask for a new room.
