Furniture- What to Do with It?

We are looking into possibly getting new bedroom furniture to better match our new homes decor. What have you done with the old furniture in the past? What I have is under 5 years old (king bed, dresser, armoire, and nightstands) and was quite pricey so I hate to donate it-which is what I generally do. Has anyone tried consignment? ANy other ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

WOW! Thanks for all the responses- I rec'd many personal messages in addition. At this time, I'm still deciding what I want to do, so it is not officially for sale. I appreciate everyones interest if and when I do decide to sell, I will post about it here! Looks like Craigslist is a good option. For those of you who were in need of a donation, I will keep that in mind also. However, most likely it will be a sale item to offset the cost of the next set. Happy New Year all!

My vote is www.craigslist.com (make sure you post to KC). We have had lots of luck both buying and selling stuff. And the greatest thing is its free. Good luck.

Hi L.!

My hubby and I have a lot of luck with e-bay. It's pretty easy to set up and you can always list the items as a local pick-up only so that you don't have to worry about shipping.

Good Luck!

I dont want to sound like an idiot but I have a bedroom downstairs that I have a really bad feeling that I'm going to be using it soon. Me and my boyfriend are probably going to break up and I will have to move down there until I can find my own place. But the problem is that there isn't any furniture down there and I dont have my own bedroom set and I am broke. I just had my baby girl 3 months ago and havent started working yet. So if you could consider possibly giving the set to me (someone who is desperate for the set)I would come and pick it up and everything. Please let me know via e-mail @ ____@____.com thanks

L.- We always buy, sell and trade stuff online at Craig's list. Have you ever heard of it? St. Louis has a local one which is like a free classified section. You can post pictures and people respond. It is really really easy. The web site I believe is craigsliststl.com.
You can also post it on St. Louis back page which is online and free too.
And if you have pictures send them too me I might be interested--we are looking for a king size bed.

What does it look like? Maybe you can try selling it on here. I would be interested in taking a look at. We are going to buy a house next year and we will want new furniture.
Just an idea.
Thanks.

Hello, L.!
If you take the furniture to as consignment store you'll only get 60%-50% of the sale price. It is really worth the effort to list it on craigslist. The listing is free and I usually get a response and a sale within a few days. Not sure what to ask for the set? Go to eBay and see what King size bedroom sets are going for and then use that as a guide. I am a home stager and buy furniture through craiglist, consignment stores, thrift stores and furniture stores, so I've been around the block!

Good luck! I'll keep my eye out for your craigslist ad. The furniture sounds nice!!

You might try posting your furniture for sale online at http://kansascity.craigslist.org/

There is no fee. Be sure to have digital photos to post with your description.

Try to post it on www.craigslist.com on the kansas city page. It's free to post so there's nothing to lose. I have had good luck selling baby clothes and toys.
I believe CORT Furniture also buys used furniture in good condition for resale. I think they are in Lenexa.
You might also check with some smaller, privately owned apartment communities...they can sometimes use furniture for their model apartments.
Good luck!
