We have been sueing Chrystler but b/c of the bancruptcy the president said they didnt have to pay us anything....its very disturbing but now we are trying to move forward and we need to raise $50,000 for my family and I to go to Costa Rica so my soon to be 7 year old can recieve stem cell treatment. We will have to spend exacly 1 month in Costa Rica he will have 2 weeks of stem cell injections and then 2 weeks of extreme PT... the odd of him having feeling back in his legs is 80% the chances he will walk again either if its with braces or whatever is 50%...I was just wondering if anybody has any fundraiser ideas

I notice a lot of communities get behind families in similar situations. I see local businesses with donation jars and a "story" on the counter, sometimes schools or other organizations will host a walk to raise money, etc. Some families also start an online following through a blog or social networking updating family, friends, and then anyone who hears of it, generating interest and support. If you are part of a church, see if they can host a garage sale just for that, or sponsor one through a youth minister or something--people would donate items and the funds would go for medical help.

Mitzi gave some great ideas. Maybe his school or church could host a giant rummage/bake sale/ talent show for proceeds to his treatment, call your local media to advertise.

What I suggest is to set up a blog (www.blogspot.com) and a facebook fan page, so that people can join and donate through Paypal, or even through a bank account set up to recieve funds. I know of several children who have these and the donations do come in. Just keep updating it and spread the word around. I have a lot of experience in setting up blogs and with paypal and everything so if you need any help, I don't mind.

Here are some facebook fanpage children's group that are growing as well as blogs so you can see a little how it works:

Some people fundraise, some have auctions, some have benefit concerts where people donate services/food/a music group... I'm sure there is a lot of info on google on how to organize something

I didn't see the other post. I'm glad you reworded it.
Are you members of a church? Maybe they can have a benefit breakfast/dinner.
Sometimes Christian radio stations can get the word out too. Try KLOVE.com. You need to go public and people will help.
Good luck to you and I really hope he is able to walk again.

Fitness Works athletic club has a really easy-to-sell fundraising program that you can get into - and you get 50% of the proceeds. They have 4 locations in the Phoenix Metro, so if you have a large network here (or use sites like Craigslist to get the word out), you could probably do very well. Call and ask for Travis Renner.

Good luck and best wishes for a recovery!

First of all, congrats on getting your fundraising started! Raising support for a worthy cause can be super rewarding. But obviously, if you're not an official non-profit, it can be really tricky finding a good way to build support for your cause.

One route you might want to consider: setting up a homepage for your group on a fundraising website. Having a group homepage online makes organizing and fundraising infinitely easier ... And though the majority of fundraising sites require you have official non-profit status, many good ones only require that you are a group - and will give you plenty of the tools you need.

For example, one good site is Meet Up (www.meetup.com), who allow you to fundraise directly to your account, and register a group without having an official non-profit status - and they cover groups around the world, while giving you some tools to do event management. But the tools they offer are a little limited outside of fundraising.

Another good option would be Empowered.org (www.empowered.org), a platform that also helps small groups fundraise and organize (regardless of non-profit status). They also work for international groups - and offer a fair amount of useful tools, like the ability to organize your group or to create volunteer activities and fundraising campaigns for more targeted ways to raise support.

Or you could always try to send up your own PayPal account to link to you directly to help you fundraise, but this is a little trickier and a bit inflexible.

Good luck getting started moving forward! Hope that helped.

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation. Maybe do a 50/50 raffle? Sell tickets for 5 bucks a piece, the winner gets half the proceeds, and you get half the proceeds. The facebook fan page is a good idea, also getting your church involved. Best of luck to you and your family.
