Hello! One of my bestest friends is having a great guy friend of hers coming next weekend. My hubby, myself, she and friend want to spend the day together and just have a good time. He does not like sports, but enjoys history stuff, and says he is open to whatever. We will not be going to JFK museum one thing been there done that... However we would like to start early Saturday and have a plan. We are in the middle of DFW so can go either way. We had thought of the Gaylord for lunch and maybe a comedy club that evening but other than that we have nothing. Anybody know of any fun things at the stockyards? Plan our day please open for suggestions. Ages are 45=55!!

So What Happened?

Hi There! We had a blast. Started at 10 that morning and headed to Grapevine...walked the main street, ate a small lunch, and went on the Train to Stockyards! Was so much fun. He had never seen an armadillo and they had armadillo races. He took lots of pictures and when we rode the train he said wow you don't see people riding horses in Indiana. Was perfect. We then went to eat Mexican Food in dallas and then went to Adlibs comedy club in Deep Elum. We made it back to home about 12:30 a.m.! We had a blast and he saw lots from Ft. Worth to Dallas and in between! Thank you all for your ideas! They worked!!

Well if you are already going to the Gaylord for lunch, you could add on wine tasting in downtown Grapevine. I take all of my out of town visitors there and everyone has had a great time.

You could do lunch in the stockyards and watch the parade of longhorns that happens daily at 11:30. If there is anyone you're interested in seeing music wise at Billy Bobs it is a great place to see a show. It's worth it to buy the more expensive tickets because you can get REALLY close to the stage. It's a relatively small venue for a concert so you can really interact with the artist. Or you may like to tour Southfork Ranch if he was a Dallas fan back in the day. It is a bit east of Dallas. Directions on the web. have fun

Heres what I think:
Since your are not doing the JFK thing there is really no reason to go to Dallas unless you want to shop or enjoy fine dining. If so you could go to Stephan Pyles resturant for a texas dining experience. But, I think you should take him to the stockyards. The train sounds fun! Walk around, buy cowboy hats or belts etc.
Have a great steak for lunch. Go to a fabulous museum. Have good mexican food for dinner and then go to Billy Bobs and ride the bull!
This is the full on Texas experience! Try not to spend too much time at the Gaylord. Its lacking in culture and just a hotel really.
Have fun

Since you are going towards the Grapevine area, you could take your guests to ride the Tarantula Train - www.tarantulatrain.com - which is a real steam locomotive. It departs from Grapevine and takes you to the Ft. Worth Stockyards. It is really fun!

A.,
Have you thought about going to main street in Grapevine? Since you are at the Gaylord it is only a few minutes away. I dont know if they have some histroy type stuff, but it may be nice to stroll around and grab some coffee. On Sunday, you may want to check out central market i Southlake. For some reason I think someone said on Sundays they have a brunch and maybe a band?? As you can tel I dont get out much with younger kids. Too bad you dont need listing of roller skating or jump houses, I could have really givenyou some great places. Hope you have a wonderufl day with your friend.

While you are in Grapevine take the Tarantula train TO the stockyards! www.grapevinetexasusa.com
It's a fun old timey train ride, you can walk around the stockyards for an hour, take the train back to Grapevine, and if you like the Stockyards enough, take the car and go back - great restaurants, history stuff. THEN while you are in the stockyards, you can go to the OMNI theatre and museum area off Magnolia. 'Deep Sea', 'Mummies' and 'Dinosaurs' are playing now -http://www.fwmuseum.org/omni/index.html
While you are in the area off of 30, Pappadeaux, Pappa's and Pappasitoes is there to eat and drink - YUM!!
OR, you can drop them off at Bass Pro across from Gaylord and YOU can go shopping at the Grapevine Mills Mall..HAVE FUN!!!! OR you can spend a time in Grapevine Main street - we have 7 wineries - 6 are right in Grapevine itself - great vino! There is ALOT of history in Grapevine - too bad he wasn't here the past weekend with GrapeFest - other than Sat rain - it was a BLAST! Have fun!!! (can you tell I was on the Steering Committe for Grapevine?) ha!
