Hello from a Fort Wayne mom!!!!! The best school in Fort Wayne is Southwest Allen County. The second best is Northwest Allen County. Stay away from Fort Wayne Community and Southeast. Southwest Fort Wayne is the nicest side of town, but Northwest is quickly catching up. I live Southwest, and there are TONS of housing additions on my side that are AWESOME! Some roads to look into for houses is anything off of Scott, Hadley, Aboite Center, Liberty Mills, Homestead, and honestly just on those there are TONS of housing additions! If you're looking to not live in the city, ask a realtor that you want to look for houses in Roanoke, IN that are still in Homestead school district (that's the high school in SWAC) There are TONS of houses between the very outside of Fort Wayne and Roanoke that are in the country and nice. I live on the very outskirts of Fort Wayne near Roanoke, but look forward to us looking for a house more in the country. It's such a perfect area to live in because the Village of Coventry is within 5 minutes, and there are grocery stores, a library, little shops, and restaurants there. There's also a really nice YMCA on our side of town. My mom lives Northwest in Huntertown, but I still like Southwest better,.....sometimes you get some snobby kids in the classrooms because there are a lot of super ritzy additions around here, but for the most part, the kids are great and teachers are outstanding! My kids go to Lafayette Meadows Elementary. I also hear great things about Covington, Aboite, and Haverhill Elementary schools. Good luck! I think you'd like it here!

Hi J.,

I live in Indianapolis which is about 1 1/2 hours from Fort Wayne. I've only heard good things about the city you can research local newspapers from the area and even go to Google Earth and look up address's to see where you may be going. As far as the areas check with the local police department and and you can find out the crime rates in the area which you should be able to do this with the newspapers as well. Just Google - Fort Wayne Indiana Newspapers and you will find them.

Good Luck!

Fort Wayne is a nice city! I live about 30 mins from there right across the state line in OH (very much in the sticks..lol!). You'll want to avoid downtown and the South side of town. There's a lot of expansion on the North and West sides of the city. There are TONS of nice little towns that have good school systems. New Haven is right outside of Fort Wayne and would be a good place if you like a bigger town with out the hassle of the city. New Haven has a lot of big city conveniences, but still has the small town feel. We almost lived there till we found the house we currently live in. Woodburn is another good little town.
