I had a friend who recently got married in Wyoming on a dude ranch. She wore rhinestone-studded jeans, new fancy boots, a new cowgirl hat, ruffled shirt and vest. She looked fantastic! Her groom wore jeans, boots, a dress shirt and bolo.
They actually said their vows on horseback.

I have a friend who had a western wedding. She wore a regular wedding dress but it wasn't a big hoop big train thing. Very slim and simple. She wore cowboy boots, the groom wore wranglers and a western shirt with pink in it (her favorite color) and the groomsmen all matched the groom. The bridesmaids wore simple pink dresses. It was an outside reception and they had a western band play. It was a very simple and very fun wedding!!

My recommendation is to wear a wedding dress, but play with the western theme everywhere else (shoes and veil included). My wedding was a western style outdoor wedding and I wore a simple white A-line dress (was actually a bridesmaids dress in white), heeled sandals, and I french braided my hair with flowers. My bridesmaids wore Old Navy, A-line, ankle length, denim skirts with white button down shirts. The groom and groomsmen wore denim jeans, white button down shirts. The groom (my husband) wore a bolo tie and his groomsmen wore the button cover things. My flowers were red, white, and blue (we were married on the 4th of July and it was a Texas theme as well) with yellow roses. All the guests were encouraged to wear jeans or western attire.

We had a western wedding. I wore a white dress with white boots and a white western hat with a short veil on the back. Ushers and brides maid wore black skirts & jeans with white shirts. Groom wore black jeans with a black tux jacket.

Congratulations and have fun!

Our wedding was a mixture of both. We had hats and ropes on the wine glasses and napkins, filled little cowboy hats with mints on the tables and after the wedding my husband changed into a white vest and jeans and boots for the reception. She should definately wear a dress and if she wants to country it up a bit they have white wedding cowboy hats for women and also short lacy gloves are a western tradition. She could wear white boots under her dress but yes yes yes she should wear a dress.
PS. My husband owns a DJ company if she has not found one yet. www.1stclassdjservice.net

How about a regular gown, with boots, and a cowboy hat instead of a veil?

It is her wedding and she should do what she wants. My friend's daughter had a western wedding and she wore a wedding gown.

As a fashion designer, I would suggest that he keep her wedding a wedding. Think about the photo's after 20 years???

Looking back she have wished that she kept it simple.

I would suggest this...If she wants to add some fun to her wedding and have some westen wear, she wear white cowgirl boots under her gown.

Or her after the wedding suit is western.

I photographed a western wedding once, it was beautiful, the bride wore a wedding dress with her favorite boots, the groomsmen all wore black western suits with a hat and boots, they were married at a ranch and we were able to get some photos at sunset with the cows in the background, it was beautiful!

sorry got caught up in the memory, but wear the dress!

I vote for a wedding gown with her favorite boots...the wedding gown will keep it classic, and the boots will make it fun and all her own!
My sister-in-law is getting married and wearing white converse with her wedding gown, I wore sparkly white flip flops with mine...I LOVE how the shoes don't have to be traditional and can play up the brides personality :)

I guess I would have to ask if there are horses involved and if you are going to be on the horses, or are they just going to be next to you. Also you might consider a carriage. Call the Myers park and event center. They can probably hook you up to someone who does carriage ride for weddings etc.

Also if you go on line and type in Western wedding gowns, you may come up with some ideas from those sites. Have fun.

My niece had a western wedding. She wore a regular wedding dress, but the groom and groomsmen wore dressy western clothes, white coats and pants, as I recall. She processed to "What A Difference You Made In My Life." It was a backyard wedding with barbeque and beer for the reception. Naturally, this was in Texas!

I have seen this done so many ways. The most important thing is it her wedding and she should do what she wants.

My daughter wore a simple wedding gown with veil and was barefoot during the ceremony then put on her boots for the reception and dancing. The men all wore jeans and khaki shirts.

We had a friend that wore a skirt and blouse that was lacy and western with boots. Another friend wore a formal dress with her boots, the ceremony was outside and she arrived on horseback.

Just tell her to do what she is comfortable with. She does not have to please anyone but herself and maybe her parents if they are helping with the cost of the wedding.

Congratulations to her!

My cousin wore a simple wedding gown with more lace than ruffles, no train, and a pretty tourquoise cowgirl hat, with a tourquoise/silver necklace. It added just the right touch of western style without taking away from wearing a beautiful wedding gown.

I was actually going to suggest the same thing. If it were me I would wear a wedding gown with cowboy boots. I think that is the cutest thing in the world. And then have the boys dress up real western.....

My sister had a "western" wedding this past September. She wore a beautiful gown (no long train) with boots and her husband to be and groomsmen wore black jeans, white button down shirt w/a black western vest and boots. The bridesmaids wre gowns in the color she chose. Beautiful wedding!

I'd ask her what kind of gown she wants. She could incorporate western style into it with a red bandana, cowgirl hat, boots, etc.

I'd suggest using red bandanas somewhere in the decorations along with spurs, hats, boots, etc. You could possibly get these in smaller sizes for decorations on the tables. Also, if she wants to incorporate horses, do that!

There used to be a chapel in the area of Billy Bob's Western Saloon in Ft. Worth that did weddings but when I tried to get the name for you, I found they went out of business.

The reception took place in a private party room at Billy Bob's ("the world's largest honky tonk") in the Ft. Worth Stockyards. See this link for pictures and info: http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/North_America/United...

In my bit of research, I also found that they could call ###-###-####) or go to the website with pictures (www.stockyardsstation), then click on "event facilities," to see various places for western receptions. Bet if they talked to them expressing some interest, but asking if they can recommend a good place for a western wedding.

A wedding gown, but look for a style that is more casual and work braided wheat and rope into her bouquet, or something like that. I saw one where the flowers had wild flowers or bluebonnets, silk, with wheat and rope and a small cow bell. The arrangments were in cowboy boots and terra cotta pots.
Try Martha Stewarts website and look at her weddings, pictures and dresses for a style she is comfortable with. There are hundreds of ideas. hurricane lamps at early evening can hang from trees or the porch or on tables, bandanas can be napkins or table runners or centerpiece cloths.
A cowboy hat, if she looks good in one can have a veil attached I have even seen one where the bride and groom came in on horses all decked out and the wedding was outside with a barn dance for the reception. Good Luck!
