Looking for you seasoned moms...just need some feedback on food for 11 month old. I feel like our variety is lacking...or that I find myself sticking to the things he likes best. I don't feed him junky stuff, but I like to see him EATING, so I give him 'repeated' meals, especially at lunchtime. Can anyone offer some good things for us? I am usually second guessing myself...
Thanks...

What can I do next?

Hi Y., what kinds of foods are you feeding him? there are so many toddler meals on the market. when my kids were at the stage between toddler meals and adult food, i gave them, Mac & cheese, soups, if you are going to use can soups, open the can put in a plastc container and put it in the freezer once it chils/ not frozen scrape the top off you will be getting rid of the grease nd sodium in the soups. Raviolies, spaghetti, grilled cheese, oatmeal, also what i did, was i made mashed potatoes, and I would put meat and vegies in the potatoes and give them that, eggs. As long as you know your child is eating healthy try not to worry to much. Chicken nugggets were always a hit with mu kids, fish sticks, just get creative and you'll be sorprised what you will come up with. Mother for 24 years. J.

look at ways you can prepare the foods he likes differeantly. like if hes likes cheese maybe make a quesadilla, or a grilled cheese sandwhich or just cut up little cubes. what i do with my daughter (whos 14mo) is make sure she gets at least 1 fruit 1 vegitable and 1 meat a day. she a good eater and isnt real picky. she gets a cup of milk when she first wakes up and then for breakfast she will eat eggs and toast, or oat meal (regualt not the baby oatmeal) with baby juice in it for flavor, or fruit cups (they are low in sugar), apple sauce with cottage cheese, yogurt, then she gets juice to drink after. for lunch she could have a quesadilla, 1/2 a grilled cheese, a hamberger pattie, pb and j, egg, and with any of those things she gets a vegitable (i buy canned vegies and fill up a baby food jar so 1 can makes 3 jars) and a couple cookies, fruit roll or graduates fruit snacks, to drink she gets low sodium v8 slightly watered down. dinner she will have white meat chicken, grilled cheese, hamberger pattie, speghetti, steak and a vegitable, usually what ever we eat if its ready in time and she gets water to drink. then for bed she gets a cup of milk. she does eat a snack in between lunch and dinner usually the fruit puffs a couple cookies, the gerber lil sticks, diced apples anything thats finger food with some water. the possibilities are endless try giving him something new. good luck!

If you can , buy a baby food grinder from toys-r-us. Or babies-r-us. They are cheap, and can turn what you make at home( less any spicieness of course) into food for your baby. I did it and my kids loved it!!!

They don't mind eating the same thing often. Not real mature in the taste area yet. I made my babyfood from my garden and they ate a lot of squash. Feed him the good food you eat the he can handle. Keep it plain and feed things that later he may not want. My twins ate lots of root vegetables like parsnips and rutabagas raw when they were barely a year. One piece of advice, make meal time - meal time. Kids don't have to have food to drag around and occupy themselves with. Start with a new food and see what happens for a few days. No reaction? Feed it again. I had so much fun expanding the group of food they ate. If you are going to give him a supplement, make sure you know where and how it is made and what is in it. Can you see the place where they grow the stuff? can you visit the plant where they make it? Don't just go by Oprah, check out what you give your baby. My boys still get Nutrilite food Supplements. Organic and contain the full spectrum of phytonutrients. Have fun with him!!!

I was in the same boat with my little one at that age. It's such a difficult age because they start to get tired of purees, but can't do much for finger food yet. I gave Izzy steamed frozen veggies (cooked until very soft and cut small) like green beans, carrots, peas, zucchini,- I steamed them ahead and froze them in little bags, then re-heated them (but not in the bag- shouldn't microwave plastic bags). I also fed her brown rice (at first ran through a food mill with a little water, then whole), really well cooked pasta (penne, spirals, or wagon wheels- shapes that are easy to pick up, and usually I made whole wheat or Barilla plus), small cubes of tofu (not cooked, just the firm stuff cut up), lots of cheerios (a good source of iron), and towards her first birthday I also started giving her plain yogurt and small pieces of cheese- they can actually start having yogurt around 9 months unlike other dairy. She also ate frozen whole wheat waffles, cut up avocados, cut up bananas, canned beans or lentils, and basically anything I felt was soft enough. And I gradually added stuff. At 16 months she was eatting pretty much everything. Think about your aim- you want him to eat with the family I'm assuming, so you want to get him accustomed to eatting what you and your husband eat, so look at that and add what you think he can handle.
