I just found out my 7 month old is allergic to milk, soy and eggs. We had to switch her formula to elecare... Does anyone use this or in the same situation?? Also, as she gets older what will she drink, if she can't drink whole milk?? Also, she was sleeping until 6-7am not waking earlier, could she be more hungry?? We have only done rice cereal and applesauce so far, should I be feeding more? Thanks alison

What can I do next?

Alison, our son, now 3 and a half, had the same allergies as an infant. I breastfed him, but supplemented with a similar formula, called Neocate. We also received samples of elecare, it's similar to Neocate. The formula is very good.
When your daughter gets older, she can drink rice milk. Our son outgrew the dairy allergy a year ago. He still prefers the rice milk to regular milk, belive it or not. And the rice milks are enriched, so they provide the same nutrients as regular milk. OUr son is still allergic to egg and soy. Food allergies are complicated, but there are alternatives for her to eat as she gets older. YOu'll become an expert at reading labels ......As for the second part of your question, probably best to check with your pediatrician....
Best of luck to you,

Most kids outgrow milk alleries by the time they hit age 5. My 2nd grandson was treated for acid reflux with every drug on the market and it turned out to be a milk allergy.

My daughter had an appointment with a nutritionist and it was extremely helpful. She had a lot of suggestions on not only what to feed but where to purchase the needed food. Since nutritionists design meal plans around all different needs it's money well spent.

Hi Alison,
My son was allergic to milk formula, and with soy formula he spit up blood! We ended up using Alimentum (similac brand). When he turned one the doctor suggested making bottles with 1/2 formula and 1/2 milk and slowly moving to all milk. Now he drinks milk and he's fine with it. He said most kids outgrow the milk allergy. If she doesn't, give her water or a water/juice combination. Kids don't need juice, but a little in water adds flavor. You could try sweet potatoes (usually a big hit) and squash. If she's full with what you feed her, I wouldn't worry about feeding her more. If she cues you that she still wants food, try giving her a little more. You could try cheerios too. My son really liked the Gerber Puffs too.

We are 21 months and also allergic to milk and I thinks eggs too...my son eats a ton of cheerios, puffs(the walmart brand is cheaper and has more calcium), grahm crackers, pancakes and waffles(just add h2o kind/sweetpotato)and he drinks calcium fortified juices(orange,apple,cran/ras are his fav)...it takes getting used too, my first 4 have no allergies to food but after about a month or so you get used to reading every label...I just make sure it's not one of the first 3 ingredients...he does have a little eczema because of this (but he doesn't scratch) and I don't want to rid it compleletly from his diet because then when he comes in contact with it his reaction may become far worse. Goodluck! Happy Mother's Day!
ps you could also try goats milk it's the closest to human.
