Fluttering in the 17Th Week

I am a bit concerned because I was feeling fluttering from my baby but the past two days I have not really felt it. The initial fluttering was maybe once a day and not necessarily every day. Am I crazy thinking something is wrong? I would think fluttering should increase. Should I wait it out? My ultrasound is next week. This is my second pregnancy.

What can I do next?

at this early stage it can be felt sometimes and not at others...even if you felt it for a few days... I wouldn't worry.. the baby could be most active when you are sleeping or the movement so small you are not feeling it "all" of the time

A friend of mine suffered through a miscarriage on her second pregnancy, so during her third, she rented a fetal heart monitor (suggested earlier) and I think that made her much less stressed out. It's really easy to use and by the middle of your pregnancy, a heart beat should be pretty easy to catch. At ten weeks, it's a 50/50 shot if you'll hear it, but by now it should be a breeze.

Hi S.,

I am almost 19 weeks pregnant myself right now and I still don't feel the baby move all the time. I'm sure everything is fine but if you are really worried then give your doctor a call even if it is just to ease your mind. We all have tons of worried thoughts go through our heads throughout pregnancy.

For me, the fluttering was very random - not consistent at all - especially before the 20th week or so. I think it's fairly normal for you to be experiencing this. However, if your mama gut is telling you something, best to see the doc - at the very least it can just confirm that everything is ok and you get the peace of mind.

S., yes , we all can understand the concern you have, if i could not feel them i would sit and wait and hold my hand on there until i did, i hated that not feeling them feeling, if you are concerned get it checked out, you have waited two days, if you feel you must get it checked, go ahead, maybe give them a little nudge in your belly and talk to it, and see if youget any response, they could be in a deep sleep or just wedged to where you wont feel them, any way , keep smiling and have a good day, D. s

As an OB nurse, I can tell you that right now the baby is just really small (maybe 6-8 inches long), and has alot of water to float around in. So most women don't feel consistent movement at this point. If you have no cramping and no bleeding, relax. Everything is probably fine. Just because you don't feel the movement, doesn't mean it's not moving. You should probably be scheduled for an ultrasound soon, or maybe you have an appointment soon.....they will listen for the baby's heartbeat...or by now you've felt something. By all means, go in if you have bleeding or leaking of fluid. But otherwise, there's nothing they can do for you at this point.
Relax! :) I'm sure you're busy with your little one and just not feeling the little bit of movement that there is.

I think I was well into my 18-19th weeks before I felt consistent movements. Different strokes for different folks! Each pregnancy is different, this is just one of those differences. If you are really concerned, call your doctor and go in to hear the heartbeat.

you can usually get them moving by drinking some ice water. :)

Honestly the "fluttering" you are feeling is probably mostly gass. You will get to know the difference when you are alittle farther along. I remember hearing this thinking, "I have never had gass that felt like something was moving inside me." Well, when you are pregnant it seems like everything is exaggerated. You will start to see a pattern in your baby's movement like between 1-3pm it will feel like there is a WWF wrestling match going on in there, but from 4-6 there is not much of anything going on. Just relax, but if it is really concerning you go with your gut feeling and call your ob. The thing about women's intuition is true.

I would relax when you can. Especially with a 22 month old. I think your mind is on it so much you can't feel it. the mind can over ride feelings. Just relax! go for a massage! Best of luck and enjoy the bundle.

Very Very normal! Its not unusual to begin to feel movement and then not feel anything for a while. YOu dont need to worry about not feeling it until your around 6 mos. Then you should feel some kind of movement several times a day! Anyways try to relax and enjoy your pregnancy, Hope this helps.

Hi S.. If I recall, fluttering this early is not consistent. I agree w/Katrina, it's more consistent around the 20th week. I was a huge worrier, so I got a fetal heartbeat monitor, it gave me huge peace of mind. Maybe you should try one.

I didn't feel anything consistent until around 22 weeks. I actually didn't feel anything that I could be sure was the baby until around 19 weeks and then it was just sporadic until around 22 weeks.

I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry too much about it. I always think the same thing when I'm not feeling my baby moving but guess it's based upon when he/she feels like moving around:)
