Fluttering in Lower Abdomin

Hi all. My son is about to turn 8 months old, and during my 6 week checkup after having him I got the Depo Provera birth control shot...went the 3 months (during which I had a 2 month long period) and didnt go back to get the next shot because I didnt like how it affected my menstrual cycle. Well...since then, December hit and about midway through I was supposed to have another period and it never came. I havent had one yet since..its now been over 3 months with NO period, not even spotting. I have read that sometimes after the shot, and not getting the next one, you can go for awhile with no period. Now though, Ive had a fluttering sensation in my lower abdomin for like a week now. It feels like a babys first kicks...but I dont think Im pregnant! My hubby and I dont have much of a sex life right now because he works so much and our 2 yr old sleeps in our bed (sigh)..and when we had done it after I had the shot we still used protection. I know that nothing is 100% but Im kinda freaking out. I havent taken a Preg test yet...I was hoping I might get some insight into what this fluttering could be if Im not pregnant. Has anyone else experianced this?? Thanks!

What can I do next?

Take a test, but I get that fluttering sometimes since having a baby and I'm NOT pregnant! Maybe I just never noticed it before? Weird. Good luck!

Hi Jen,

If you are not pregnant, get an IUD device as your form of birth control.

I believe the depo shot are scary for women.

Just wanted you to know. D.

Hello! I will echo the others' advice and suggest you get a pregnancy test done right away so you will know. If you are not pregnant, don't worry. I also have experienced those sensations. As for the depo shots... I also have experience with those. What did your doctor say when you told her/him about your month-long period? Depo affects each woman differently, but generally it takes a couple of cycles to get in sync with your body. Some have no bleeding at all, and others have a lot initially. Usually after the first 2 injections (after 3-6 months), your body gets in line, and many/most women do not have periods at all while on the depo. Best wishes!

This is funny because I get this sensation a lot. I actually just did a test yesterday that was negative. I have asked my doctor and she said this happens a lot and it is usually gas. I swore for the first 3-4 months after I gave birth both times I had "phantom" kicking sensations. I know for me personally I am very content with my family the way it is now and I am just paranoid that I am going to accidentally get pregnant again. I would tell you to invest the $5 in a test just for your own piece of mind. Good Luck!!

First, I would recommend you just take a pregnancy test. They are relatively cheap and very fast and easy to use. Why stress out for days when you can find out in 3 minutes?

Second, I also get those sensations. I have gotten them for years. To me, it feels like a twitch. I get it in my eye on occasion and sometimes my abdomen and even my arms, etc. I believe it is common and is nothing to be concerned about, if your testes reads negative.

Good Luck!!

I get that fluttering sensation too. I am not pregnant, haven't been for nine years and am not on birth control. It's gas.

But for your peace of mind, go get the pregnancy test.

Take a pregnancy test! LOL YOu need to know. It only takes having sex once to get pregnant so it doesn't matter how little sex you and hubby have had. You did have sex. I know, you sound scared. But ease your mind and take the test. Many times I've thought I felt a flutter and it was nothing at all.

Either get a preg test or have your dr get your blood drawn, the blood work is more acurate anyway. Good luck!
