Fluid on the Brain. Has It Happened or Is Happening to Anyone?

I went in for my 17week 4 day scan. The MFM doctor was concerned because of 2 dark spots, which were fluid. He wants to wait till I am a few weeks further to re-check. Has anyone or is anyone dealing with this now? I really don't know what to do. I am soooo scared.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I went in today for my 20 week scan. I was told that my son's ventricles are enlarged. They are measuring 12 mm which they say above 10 is abnormal. I researched and joined some groups. I'm just trying to stay positive.

Some kids are born with hydrocephalus, which is actually enlarged ventricles in the brain that carry fluid. Did your doctor mention this? My friend’s child had this and had to have a shunt put in at birth but she is a college graduate and is otherwise healthy.

I’ll keep your baby and you in my prayers.

My son was found to have fluid in his brain at the 20 week scan. The doctor explained to me that these generally go away on their own. And he was right. My son is now a healthy 3 year old with a big personality.

Sorry I don't know anyone that's had this happen.
There's nothing you can do except to try not to worry because worrying isn't going to change anything.
Spots can come and go.
They might re-check you a few times.
Hang in there.

it's great that we have all this technology that can alert us to problems early.

the downside is that we now have to contend with all the 'maybes' that these tests raise.

i know it's not really possible to control one's fears 100%, but it's important for you to rein yourself in as much as possible. IF there's a problem you'll deal with it as well as your nature dictates and your doctors suggest. but there's probably not. and by letting yourself stay in a state of high anxiety, you're negatively affecting your baby anyway.

use whatever techniques typically help you to compose yourself, and wait for further information..

Welcome to mamapedia!!

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I know it's easier said than done, but don't stress over things you can't control.

In most cases the fluid is absorbed by the time the baby is born. Breathe. Keep your stress levels down. BREATHE
