Hi Everyone! Hoping you guys may have some good advice as my friend is in need!

In June, my friend had a 4cm fluid-filled cyst extracted (not by surgery - simply extracted by a needle...like popping a balloon and removing the fluid) - it was there almost a year...not growing and not cancerous but simply there and started throwing off her menstrual cycles! ...she went for a sono last week, and the cyst had come back again...again, fluid filled and only 3cm this time! She had it extracted again yesterday! Does anyone know of a way to help preventing this fluid-filled cyst from coming back as they are going to try for children in the next few months and worried this cyst could affect that!

She has done lots of research and didn't see much on prevention of ovarian cysts - but I told her this is one of the best places to ask :-)...and thought maybe some of you may have some ideas! 1.) to advance the healing of the cyst extraction she had yesterday and 2.) to prevent her cyst from coming back!

Oh...and I suggested her to look at a possible hormone imbalance as a possible cause...but she said the Doc said that wasn't the case!

Thanks so much everyone if any of you have some feedback!

I've had several and one when I was pregnant. Mine disappeared after the delivery which I never found out why, but it was just gone. It didn't interfer with my pregnancy at all. Good luck to them.

I have had cysts in the past - unfortunately, mine usually rupture and that is PAINFUL! Anyway, my Dr. told me the best way to stop them from forming is to be on a hormone birth control. When we were trying to have a baby, obviously I was not on BC, and luckily it didn't cause any problems. He said most people form a cyst every month and it naturally dissapates. He said when you are pregnant your hormones are different and they don't form. As I'm typing this I realize that I must not fully understand what he was trying to explain b/c I'm not expaining it very well. So, I have no tricks other than to get pregnant! She really should check with her doctor to see what can be done.

First, she needs to go to a different doctor and get a second opinion. I have had cysts all of my life, birth control keeps them at bay. My first doctor didn't diagnose me correctly or treat me correctly. Always get a second opinion.

The cysts are part of her monthly cycle...they will fill and burst on their own. Mine finally stopped when I got pregnant, and have not returned...if these are just cycts there is nothing to do but let her body rid them on its own. If it is more severe, the doctor will perform tests, but as tests come back negative for her, they are probably just a hormone imbalance that is either fixed by becoming pregnant or going on birth control pills.

I had a fluid filled cyst surgically removed 6 years ago and it has not come back. I mostly did it so they could surgically explore to diagnose whether or not I had endometriosis. Good luck to her!

It sounds like your friend has PCOS. You can't stop the cysts unless you are being treated by a specialist. I recommend Dr. D.W. "Dub" Howard in Carrollton.

I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit in highschool removed and that fluid filled one never came back but having PCOS my ovaries have always been covered in cysts when not either on certain birth control (most don't work well) or on the insulin/testosterone pills that truely help PCOS because the root of the problem is not in your ovaries.

Having PCOS and getting pregnant is possible. I have two healthly beautiful children and have had three pregnancies. I also have many friends with the same problem and they too have children.

good luck!

I developed cycts on my ovaries about 1 1/2 yrs ago. I was having trouble with my cycles and did an internet search on ovulation calendars (sp??). I found one I like and used it. When we decided to get pregnant, it took two months. I do agree with the others, she needs to get a second opinion. Never stop trying to find a dr that you feel is going to help you and not ignore you. It may take 4 or 5 diffent dr's before she finds one she likes. It is possible to -- if not solve the problem -- to control the problem and to have children. Good Luck.

I have never heard of cysts preventing pregnancy but I do know that it is very common to get cysts during pregnancy and it's not harmful. Sorry I don't have any real advice. Good luck!

It would be a good idea to take the herbs dong quai and black cohosh on a regular basis. They help stabilize female hormonal levels and support the entire reproductive system. This often results in fewer and less severe PMS symptoms, which is an added plus. Any good health food store has these available.
Good luck!

She needs to talk to her doctor about starting to take metformin. This is an insulin drug and the more they study PCOS, they more they are learning that it may be caused by an insulin imbalance. For more information tell her to google metformin and PCOS.
