I am debating whether or not to have my kids receive the flu shots this year. Does anyone have a strong opinion one way or another?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

We've decided to go ahead with the regular vaccine, but not the H1N1 vaccine. Thanks for the responses!

I also wanted to note that I did call our pediatrician who is staying neutral on both vaccines. She is leaving the decisions up the parents. I was looking for a little more help from our medical professional!

Seems folks are stronly for or against on this subject. I am the latter. Perhaps that is what my "RAS" is open to hearing. Here is one of my sources

Hi R.,
I'm for vaccinating but I wasn't sure about the flu shot. His pediatrician recommended it so he's been getting them since he was around 6 months old. We just went this past Friday to the Walgreens Take Care Clinic to get the Flu Mist (his doctor's office ran out) so if you're going to go, I would do it soon. I am not sure on the H1N1...I'm actually pregnant with our second, I have never had a flu shot and with all of the media hype I'm just not sure what do!

My 3 kids all received the seasonal flu shot about a month ago. I'm not sure yet what to do about the H1N1 shot though.

Our entire family gets the regular seasonal flu vaccine. We are NOT getting the H1N1 vaccine.

If you decide to get them I would move quickly most places are currently out of the vaccine already. I do vaccinate all three of my kids.

I think it's a personal decision, but I also think the anti-vaccine movement is a bit over the top, partly because, if it wasn't for vaccines, we'd have such diseases as polio, etc. I think that the benefits outweigh the costs.

I never use to get a flu vaccine (even when I taught on a college campus!), but since getting pregnant and having a child, I get them. My daughter gets them too.

I work in health care; it does seem that children are at higher risk for complications if they indeed get the flu. My feeling is it is a good idea to get the flu shot. I would consult with your pediatrician and follow his/her recommendation.
