The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends children under the age of five to get the shot, as they are still in a high risk range. I have gotten my son the flu shot every year that he's been able to(when the shortage happened he was out of the high risk zone of that time). It is complete nonsense that the flu shot will give you the flu. When a person gets the flu around the time of a shot, it is because they were already exposed to the virus, and it was still incubating when the shot was given.

My 16 mos old son got the flu shot about 2 -3 wks ago and he is still sick! I have heard that they shouldn't get sick from it but I don't buy it. I am now debating on whether or not my 2 1/2 yr old daughter should get it.

I vaccinate my 3 year old son every year now, since 2 years ago we tried it and he was the only one in the family to not get the flu! That season I had it twice and my husband once and my son was perfectly fine. We all get vaccinated now!

Please be prepared for your daughter to actually get the flu. I am not trying to scare you, but both of my kids had flu vaccines and both of them got the flu. My seven year old was so bad I had to take her to the ER. They thought she had meningitis turned out to be the flu.

At 3 she is not in a highrisk category (elderly, infant, pregnant) for getting a life threatening case of the flu. Therefore there really isn't a need to expose her to a potentially harmful vaccine

When it comes to vaccines I think its great to do some more in depth research. I've read two books on the subject and been fairly blown away by what I've read. One book was called The Vaccine Guide, the other is Vaccinations a Thoughtful Parents Guide. When it comes to vaccinations I think its best to be as informed as possible before making decisions.

The flu vaccine is recommended for all children under 5. Talk to your pediatrician if you have specific concerns. You should be able to get the vaccine directly from your doctor or a local health department. Although, most are not yet available.

Hello K.,

I have family members and friends that refuse to let their children get flu shots. They just simply give the kids supplements with Fructose Compounding (simply a mineral delivery system)which increases the absorption of important nutrients. This helps the body stay stronger and working at it peak levels. If you need more information just let me know.

I just brought my son to the doctor, and forgot to get him the flu shot. I will do it for sure though. I came down with the flew a couple years ago for the first time in ages, and it was horrible. I just wanted to die! It felt like the worst hangover of my life times ten. I don't want my son to feel that way, so I'm gonna get him the shot.

The scary thing with vaccines in mercury exposure. Thermerosol is the ingredient (now illegal) is a preservative that contains mercury. Some vaccines still have "traces of Thermerosol." I would ask your doctor if the vaccine is Thermerosol-free. Also, if the shot comes out of the refrigerator it means it has no preservatives. I won't let my son get any shots that didn't come out of the fridge.

Hope this helps.

I have two children both of which have never been vaccinated. Before my first son was born I was getting advise both ways on peoples opinions of weather or not to vaccinate. I decided to research it myself. So if you want to know some good information about vaccinations heres a great book, "How to raise a healthy child...in spite of your doctor." by Robert S. Mendelsohn, M.D. I think every parent should be informed about the benefits and the risks of vaccinations before they are forced into "the mold". Its a good book, I also took it a step farther and emailed the board of American Pediatrics. I feel I have made the best decision for my children, and whatever decision you make for your child will be the best for them. Good luck and happy hunting.

I have taken my son in every year for a flu vac. since he was able to have one. He will be 5 in Dec. and has to have one b/c of his rsv which causes asthma. He has never had any probs. with it at all. I have done research on it, and personally think that the beneifit out weighs the risk. Hope this helps

We will get my 19 mo old daughter the Flu shot. I have read all the risks involved but had to many expereinces with having the flu and have seen some bad cases where children had the flu.

It is totally your choice and I think you should read up on it and even talk with your doctor.

Hello K.,

Yes you can get a flu vaccine for your daughter. Make sure you request Preservative free one though. If not your Daughter will get one with mercury and that is what you want to avoid.

I take my daughter she is almost 3 years old but she has asthma so I should take her to get the shot. I have not had any problems with it at all and she seems to be ok. I think that you should take her. Good Luck on your decision.
