I'm in my 17th week and my doctor recommends the Flu Shot. Is this a good idea? Any past good or bad experiences? Thanks

What can I do next?

Hello, I had a flu shot when I was prego. All I had was alittle soreness for about 1 day where the shot was given, but no other symptoms. Some people do get flu like symptoms for 1-2 days, but don't actually get the flu and helps prevent against getting the flu. It's worth it, especially since you can't really take anything if you do get the flu. Thanks.

Hi! I was preganat last year when I took it in October(about6/7 months pregnant). I didn't get sick and felt no side effects. I took it on Tops Pharmacy, since they were having it earlier than my doc. I would recomend. Trust your Doc. Good luck, G.

I am a nurse and was also pregnant last winter. The infectiuous disease team at my hospital encourages flu shots to all employees, and pregnant women are one of the subgroups who really should have one. I didn't have any problems other than a little fatigue later in the day, which is a typical side effect.

The only think I can tell you is that I went through the flu season last year pregnant and I didn't have a flu shot. I made it out ok. It is all up to you as to weather or not you want the shot. I didn't have the shot for only one reason, it scares me....I know that it isn't proven that it can happen, but my Aunt, who is a dr, is convinced. She developed MS from a flu shot. I am not sure if it happened when she was pregnant or if it happened after she had her two kids. I just wanted to let you know. Again...I chose not to but I will be giving my twin 6month old girls the flu shot this year. I have a 3 year old in school and I don't want to run the risk of them getting really sick and ending up in the hospital. If you don't get the flu shot there is that possibility that you could end up in the hospital dehidrated with an iv. I hope this helps! Just remember that what happened to my aunt is not medically proven...it is only her deduction.

I have had many flu shots but never while pregnant. I never was far enough into the pregnancy to get the shot. BUT I would do it. The last thing you want is a fever while pregnant. Let alone the rest you get with the flu.
