Flip Camcorder?

We are taking advantage of Best Buy's Trade-In program and sent back our MiniDV camcorder to them for a gift card. I was never happy with the quality of the MiniDV OR the process to capture it from the tape to the computer. It was a lot of hassle.

I would like to get an easy to use, easy to transfer, smaller camera. What does everyone think of the Flip Camcorders? What about a "regular" camcorder that uses flash memory? I like the compact Flip and the obvious ease of transfer, but I've read they aren't so hot in low-light situations ?? How are they for standard, indoor shooting (bday parties, etc?).

Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you! We did some research and decided to buy the new Kodak Zi8. Unfortunately, it's out of stock...everywhere. So, we got the Zi6 for now. I'm hoping to buy the Zi8 after the new year. Thanks to everyone and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Just got one! Love it. The other kind are so much work we don't end up using it. This one is a keeper.

We got a Flip about a year ago-so an older model. I love it. It's recorded really well at an indoor birthday party and at a dance recital in a big performance hall. The only time the images were dark was camping in the light of a full moon. Can't complain about that!

I think the Flip is ok for spur of the moment things but the quality of the picture isn't great. If you want to preserve something special, I would get an HD camera. I have one that is a digital camera and records video in HD and it was around $200. It's super easy to use and no bigger than a regular camera.

The nice thing about the flip is that you can have it in your purse at all times without lugging a big piece of equipment but I use my other camera for events and milestones. It works best outdoors with natural light.

Good luck!

ok we have a Flip and absolutely love it. Super easy to use (easy enough that non techno grandparents can use it without difficulty) and the quality is excellent. I highly recommend it

I LOVE my Flip!! I use it all the time. It is so easy to use and so portable. I keep it in my diaper bag to have on hand for those "oh I wish I had my camera" moments. I have never had a problem with low light issues. I got great footage of my kids blowing out birthday candles out in the dark with no problems. I really love this camera.

I got the HD Flip from Costco about 4 months ago and it is the easiest camera I have ever used! We take soooo much more video now that we have it. My daughter who is 5 can even use it. ;o) I paid the little extra for the HD version and it was sooo worth it. :o)

I think the Flip is just like a fun little toy to send the family emails of our little guy under ten seconds or so. Not great quality but super easy and convenient. I would still get the regular video camera.
