We have been bombarded with flies over the weekend! Seriously at point I counted 67 and that was after killing a good 30+! I've tried raid spray (a bottle a day)and we're constantly chasing them with swatters! Does anybody know how to get rid of them?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

They're not all gone but we are winning! There are a handful of stubborn flies but we are determined to take care of them too. We used a combo of lots of Raid, fly paper, and swatting! The source ended up being in the guinea pigs so we'll clean them a few extra times and hopefully the flies will stay away otherwise sad to say the guinea pigs will go - I told my daughter it's me or the flies!

Seriously....it is ugly and gross but...fly paper. Works like a charm.

Are they fly-flies or smaller? More like fruit flies? If small gnat-like flies, then be aware there was some sort of bumper crop of them this year and they struck in late fall. Normally getting rid of them takes 24 hours...Just toss any bananas or tomatoes you have sitting out. But they seem very stubborn this year...Took us a couple weeks of being super vigilant about not leaving food out, scouring the sink, tossing scrubbies before their time, taking out the garbage every day, replacing the mop head constantly...

We had that problem the first fall we lived in our house. I felt like we were living in the house from the Amytiville Horror movie! The problem is that they are living/nesting under your siding and have found a hole near a window. If you can detect a particular room they are concentrated in, you need to get under the exterior siding around the windows of that room, locate the flies and the hole near the widow or door they are coming into, spray the area with insect killer, and fill the hole. Worked for us! My sister's house is a 100 year old victorian and they had the same problem in upstairs rooms until they re-sided their house and replaced windows.

Hi D.

We had a fly problem and wanted to use something that wasn't unsightly like the glue coils and also didn't have nasty chemicals. We liked the Black Flag Fly Motel. It has an adhesive on the inside that the fly gets stuck on and they aren't ugly either. They probably don't work as quickly as a swatter, but they did work for us! I've included a link for you to see what they look like. Good luck!

We had this same problem last year. It seemed like if we killed one they multiplied! It was so frustrating. So I feel your frustration.

The only thing that worked for us was putting up mulitple fly strips. Doesn't look real nice, but it worked. With being pregnant and having a 2 year old at the time we didn't want to spray a bunch of chemicals.

Good luck.

Make sure when you spray you spray around the windows and doors. I also picked up a tube looking thing that is like fly paper and put it outside by the door that we went in and out of the most. I was lucky because my cat use to keep the house clear from them, the dog helped until she got a bee once. The cat is old and not keeping up so this is the first year we had flies in the house.

When I worked in a restaurant we had a light that had sticky stuff on the bottom. It was like a catch all for the bugs. I don't know if there is somewhere you can pick one of those up, but if you can, it would be worth it.

Good luck.
