Fleas in the Bathtub?

Does anyone else have this problem? Every night when I go to give LO a bath, there are a few fleas in the tub. We don't have fleas anywhere else in the house - only in the guest bath and only in the tub! I rinse them away down the drain, but every night, they're back. We recently got pest control service too, and we don't have a dog, so I'm not sure where these fleas are coming from. There are only a few, but they are there EVERY night and I don't want the problem to grow.
Any ideas? Any product I could use, that would be safe for LO, to deter these fleas who like our bathtub???

What can I do next?

I, too, am wondering if these are not fleas but something else. What first came to my mind was termites. Look all around for any tiny holes or dirt from the holes. If they are termites you are gonna have a bunch more, and soon!

Are they fleas or are they bar flies, fruit flies or any of the other names they go by?

Fruit flies love decaying stuff including the gunk in drains. The only way you get rid of them is the clean the heck out of the drain and drain trap.

Are you sure they're not aphids/fruit flies? They tend to hang out in drains. Just pour some bleach down the drain after every bath and see what happens.

Sounds like they're gnats.
Fleas would need a live host.
Pour bleach down your drain, rinse and check for mold/mildew--that's where gnats live.
Good luck!

It sounds like gnats or fruit flies. I notice these little flies around my home as well since I have moved to Florida. I would put some baking soda and vinegar in the drain to clean out any build up in there and rinse with water. If they are the same little bugs we have they are harmless but annoying.

You can have fleas in the house without pets but someone would have bites on them. Fleas need blood to survive. When we lived up north my stepson’s girlfriend brought fleas to our home from her cats, my daughter was the one who was getting the most bites and it took forever to get rid of them. I had to have her leave anything from her mother’s house outside to prevent them from coming back, apparently her mother’s house was infested with fleas and they were hitching rides to our house.

I doubt that they're fleas. Fleas have to live on a live animal because blood is their food. I agree with Jo W. Try cleaning out the drain.

Have you asked your pest control service. They may have other ideas.

I don't know if you have a grocery store there like Price Chopper but I got a little thing that looks like a piece of fruit and it comes with stuff to pour in it and fruit flies get in there looking for the liquid and can't get out. It really took care of them quickly when I got them from over ripe bananas. I would see if you can find that at a grocery store and try it. If it's not fleas that should catch them but also really clean that drain and pour the clorox or other similar down the drain after cleaning it.

Well, if the are really fleas and not flies, I have to respectfully disagree with the other posters, you do not actually have to have a pet in order to have a full blown flea infestation. Unfortunately it is enough if your neighbors have pets and don't keep their pets fleas under control... as we have learned when we had a cat flea infestation without ever having had a cat in our apartment.

If it is just flies or gnats, treating the drain will be enough...if that does not help make sure you treat the little overflow thingy as well.

If it's really fleas, the only things that I have found to work was to flea bomb the infested room...I tried all the "natural" pest control methods: sprays, powders etc... never got rid of them until we finally used the flea bomb.
Good luck.
