Go to Home Depot, get the Home Defense spray.I have used this for over 10 yrs. It really works like it says it does. First you saturate you house, all around the inside first(the window seals, base boards, under cabinets, and wherever you feel you need to spray), then go to the outside, spray all of your entrance areas, all walkways, garage areas, and all around the edge of the house. This will not hurt you pets, there is little to no smell, and it really works, Do this twice a month until you feel comfortable enough to do once a month and then once every two to three months. This is guarenteed to work.God Bless

I use a product that I got from PetCo called Carpet & Upholstery Powder. It works well in the house. It lasts up to 1 year but our fleas are so bad in the backyard due to all the sand that I have to use twice a year. It says to keep children & pets off the upholstery & carpet during treatment & while powder is still visible. Since I have to do my whole house (to cover all my bases) I let my daughter spend the night with her Nana.

I can tell you something NOT to use. I've been trying to go green lately so I wanted to replace all of my household cleaners with more natural ones. When looking up cleaning recipes Borax kept popping up. Borax is also a flea/ant/roach killer. It's natural, but according to wikipedia and about.com it's not safe for babies to inhale or ingest. I know this doesn't solve your problem, but hopefully it will save you from something much worse.

Hi S.,

Ever since I was a child my animals had seasonal fleas.....they get heavy around spring and summer times. Anyhow, the absolute BEST thing I learned very early on from my parents is that you only have the use Advantage (my personal favorite) or Frontline flea meds on your pet and the fleas will be gone. You can buy these products at any vet store and it's ALL you will need. I've been told in the past you have to treat your yard and home as well in order for it to work and we NEVER did and were still able to get rid of all the fleas. Once they don't have an animal to bite onto, they can't survive. One summer my dogs fleas got so bad I thought nothing was going to work....the fleas were multiplyig so fast that my dogs couldn't stop itching so we went and bought some Advantage and it takes about 24 hrs to really kick in but after that 24 hrs, you'll start seeing a big difference. ALSO, we always only had to use one of the treatments the entire year on each animal. I guess it stays in the skin longer than a month so we never had to spend any more money. I bought a box of 6 treatments just to be safe and still have 4 remaining. That really is my best advice to you. You just have to make sure you or your kids don't pet the cats for 24 hrs until it's dry but after that, you should have no problems with either product not being safe for your family. It's a lot safer than any flea treatment or bombs you would have to put around your house and much much easier to use!
My dad used to try every flea treatment known to man and NOTHING ever worked until he started using advantage or frontline and he's never gone back since!
take care and let me know if you have any questions.

We have 3 dogs and live on a heavily wooded lot. Lots of opportunities for fleas. We do it ourselves with products from Home Depot. You have to do all steps at the same time to make sure you get everything taken care of.

We do not have issues with fleas. We use the RAID fogger about 3 times a year and bomb the house. We leave the house for about 3 hours. During that time, the dogs can stay in the yard, go on rides for lunch, etc. Before we go back inside, we air the house out for about an hour. We also put these bombs in the attic and garage.....we have a lot of wild animals around here.

While this is happening, we also take a liquid household bug killer and spray the foundation of the house. After that, we spread the bug killer on the yard.

We spend about $150 every 4 months or so but we have no fleas.
