We were visiting my mom this past weekend and while we were there yesterday our daughter was playing in her play room where she keeps toys for the grandkids and audrey got covered in bites but an hr or two later they were gone and when i changed her diaper this morning she was covered head to toe in red dots. on her shoulders and back, on her chest, all up and down her legs and on her feet. I googled what flea bites look like and some look like it some dont (on her) The mom in me wants to take her to the doctor to have a professional look at her and figure out exactly what it is and what we need to do to get rid of the bites but i also dont want to over react at the same time. So mommas do you guys think we should just get anti itch cream and oatmeal bath n do that or take her to the doctor to make sure its nothing serious

She had a bad flea infestation last year and only two rooms are carpeted and the toy room is one of those and audrey had fleas on her in the toy room but we took out outside as soon as we saw them on her but yesterday they werent raised at all and were gone within an hr but then this morning they are back some in different spots some in the same and raised, she is also itching some but nothing major, but the dog is an indoor dog and is outside only when everyone else is.

What can I do next?

You need to take her.

It actually sounds a bit like hives..Which means she could have gotten into something she is allergic too.

We have had a HORRIBLE FLEA issue at our house this summer.

My kids normally have them on their ankles, legs and in their middle more around the waist line.

They normally only are red for at the most a day. Flat and about the size of a smaller pearl. They normally on my kids are almost flush with the skin..meaning not a raised bump. just red. I dont know if that is typical of flea bites though.

At the very least call and talk to a nurse at the doctor's office. At least they can give you a professional over the phone opinion.

if she has any puss or fluid that seems to be in them TAKE HER NOW!

I would check the rash to make sure it isn't spreading, swelling... Also, fleas can transmit certain infections. If your child starts having fever, nausea or headaches, you must take him to your doctor immediately if they are fleas bites.

However, I would not think this is flea bites, because they disappeared, then returned this morning after she was removed from the atmosphere where the fleas were. Fleas bites would not do this, they would also be very itchy.

You can put cold compresses on any areas that are swelling, you can give her the oatmeal bath and then definitely apply a hydrocortisone cream. If it doesn't change, then take her to the Dr. It could be even be hives, or rubella, which is contagious. So I would probably go to the Dr. since I do not think these are flea bites. At the very least, call the office and ask.

If it was me personally, and my daughter was just kind of itchy of the bites and not showing any other symptoms I would probably give her a dose of Benedryl (appropriate dosage for her age and weight) and see if that didn't clear it up. It sounds like either hives or some other type of allergic reaction. If the Benedryl didn't clear it up with just one dose then I would probably take her to the Dr. just to double check.

We just had a similar situation w/our son....he got some mysterious bumps all over...but mainly on his legs, arms and some on his face. We thought it was flea bites from the babysitters because she had a new kitten that did have fleas. But I definetly took him to the doctor to make sure it wasn't an allergic reaction and she sent us to a dermotologist who thought they weren't fleas...but definetly bug bites....he was doing good and they were going away and then he came up to us and had the bumps again, we figured out it was mosquito bites and he's just really allergic to them and when he scratches them, they get worse. We do the oatmeal baths and that seems to work well and also Aveno has oatmeal lotion.....we also have a steriod itch cream we got at the dermotologist. I would def go to the doctor first to see if they can tell what it is!

Personally, I would have it looked at. It might not be flea bites at all. Does your mom have fleas in her house? Are they itchy? I think flea bites would be itchy.
Good luck!
