Flea and Tick Problem... Plz Help

I have two dogs and a cat. They are inside animals and only the dogs go out to potty. I have had pets since I was 18 and living on my own. I have NEVER had a pet with fleas or ticks. In the beginning of July, we went on vacation to my mother's house for a week. She told me after we left that her dogs had ticks really bad. I checked my animals and they have them too. I have been fighting them since then.
We bathe our pets twice a month, and we do not have grass in our back yard. We do however have ticks in the house. We have light colored carpet, and I have seen and killed 3 in the past 24 hours. I keep having to pull them off of the dogs and ticks disgust me, but I don't want them on my dogs.

How do I get rid of them? Those collar things are not working. Flea and Tick bath is not working. Plus we have them in the house. I have never had this problem before and I'm furious that my mother did not tell me she had ticks before I brought my animals there.

Can someone please help me with this? I want to be rid of these things ASAP.

Thanks in advance.

I use Frontline, you can purchase them at any vet's office. It works great!

I HIGHLY do NOT recommend Hartz products. We used it many years ago on our dog and he became very lethargic.

Good luck.

Can you buy Advantage and Frontline over the counter now? I'd advise not using the Hartz or whatever other product versions, as those have been h*** o* cats in the past, ditto with flea collars and any "herbal oils". But go to your vet if needed and get the good stuff - Advantage or Frontline. The *one* time I had a flea problem with my indoor cats (they had screened porch access in Florida), I used Advantage on like one or two of my 4 cats and that took care of every flea on all the cats and in the house.

(FWIW, I did several years as a vet assistant in a cat clinic, and have studied cats a TON :) )

We use frontline and our 3 dogs go outside to use the bathroom in the summer otherwise they are inside dogs most of the time. We have never had fleas or ticks in the house (Im knocking on wood right now). One thing you have to remember about Frontline is you can not bathe the animal for 2 days before or after applying. The frontline works in the animals oils and they need to be present on the animal. If they are already in your house you will need to treat your house too. If you want to try to do it your self go to a pest control distributor...if in Houston I recomend Solutions-they will tell you what you need and how to do it.

Our house became invested with fleas and with ticks on two separate occassions. You do not want that to happen, as it is expensive to get rid of them from the floor, furniture, etc. Use Frontline Plus on your animals, and leave them in the house. The fleas/ticks will jump on the animals and die. Eventually, they will die out. If you put the animals outside, the fleas/ticks will simply get on you to survive. This is the only thing that worked for us.

This is a 2 step process. You need to get the ticks off the dogs (you will need to go to the vet to get a presription for a flea and tick med). You will also have to bomb the house to get the eggs out of the carpet and furniture. Fleas and ticks are very difficult to get rid of, so you may want to contact a professional exterminator for this part. Good luck.

When I start seeing ticks/fleas around my house, I spray Ortho Home Defense. I buy it at Walmart for about $8-$9 and it's a pretty big white and red container that comes with the little sprayer hose thing. It is safe to spray inside and outside your house and is odorless. I also hate ticks, when they get on my little dog , but this seems to work. Here is a website with the picture of it.

I agree with the other posts. Advantage and Frontline Plus. If the fleas have gotten in your carpet (do you see any on you or your socks when you walk around) Bengal flea spray kills them and works for 9 months. Good luck.
