My son has not been sleeping like he normally does and was wondering if someone could tell me what it looks like when they are cutting in molars.. His one side of his mouth where the molars are looked bruised the other side is now subsided but its been bruised like this for a week now.. His front teeth never took this long to come through????

What can I do next?

Sounds like molars! I've been working in dentistry for 6 years and here is what I know about teething: Molars are harder on them than front teeth as there is more tooth that needs to erupt. The bruising you see is completely normal and is actually called an eruption cyst. Molars can also come almost all the way to the surface only to drop back down again. Totally frustrating for little ones, but again totally normal.

I highly recommend Humphrey's teething pellets. You desolve them in water and then rub it on the gums. They are made of all natural herbs, so there are no harmful chemicals like Orajel and Ambusol have. Also, the numbing medicines have an acid in them that can irritate the gum tissue and make the problem worse over time. They also can numb the throat and make swallowing difficult. Plus, the teething pellets taste really good and kids love it! Motrin works better for teeth pain than Tylenol, so use that when he seems to really be hurting. Hope that helps and that you both get some relief!

my kida all teethed early and i mean all their teeth before a year and 2 yr molars at 13 months anyway they are rough, i always cuddled them, tylenol, motrin for pain. my ped told me not to worry about orajel because it doesn't last long and the taste is super nasty to freeze a wet cloth and let her chew on that worked wonders on those sore swollen gums.

the molars are so tough on them. my daughter just cut hers and had a rough time. her gums would bleed. sometimes, like my baby girl, it can take a few weeks for them to comein. she still has one not in yet. i little extra comfort it the best. i alsi would give her tylenol or ibuprofren at night to help with the discomfort.

The "first molars" are premolars. My daughter cut them at 18 months. She had a horibly runny nose and her sleeping pattern changed slightly. Once they finally cut through, she was fine. I am dreading her 2-yr-molars.

Her cheeks appeared slightly swollen and bruised until they actually cut through the gums. The same has been the case with a few of her other teeth. I bought Orajel cotton swabs and the Orajel finger brush and numbing paste. It is sold almost everywhere. It's a little rubber brush that slides over your finger and she loved it. Now I now she's cutting a tooth because se ASKS to brush her teeth.

I found a few resources for me, you, and everyone who reads this.. I like the charts indicating when to expect teeth in both..

If you are worried about the bruising, definitely call your pediatrician. Mine tells me everything is normal, so I generally avoid him unless she has a fever. Good luck.

The molars are very h*** o* the babies. My daughter began cutting her molars at 11 months (CRAZY early!!!) and by 13 1/2 months, had all 4 in. Give him warm, soft food cuz his gums are VERY tender right now. Either give him some Tylenol or ibuprophin OR use the Orajel/Abusol. My daughters gums looked bruised and bloody when the molars would start pushing. It would be on and off, too. It wasn't like the smaller teeth.
Good Luck!!!!

Molars are the worst and because they are larger they are more painful and take longer to come in. My daughter was up all night screaming her head off for a week when she got her molars. I was only able to get her to sleep for 10-15 minutes at a time. Her gums were swolen and she was constantly putting things in her mouth. If his back gums are really red and swolen then I would say it is molars. Good luck!
