My friend and I want to go to First Monday Trade Days in Canton. We have never been. We are available to go the first weekend in September, but are not sure how pleasant it would be in terms of heat. I know that the booths are mainly in large tents-- are they well ventilated? Is it worth it to go now or should we wait for cooler weather? Any other tips you can give us regarding this?
Thanks!
A.

Canton would be much better in October or November because of the heat. You can also try "McKinney Days" also known as "3rd Mondays". It is just a smaller version of Canton. I really enjoy it. It is located West of 75 on 380. Good Luck!

It will be hot. There are several arbors and trade centers. I would hit those first and then if you have time and desire, attempt the outside. Get a map and mark off each building you go in or you will get confused. If you buy something, either carry it, or take to your car. If you decide to go back and get it, you may not be able to find it or the booth may close. The buildings are basically huge barns. No, they are not ventilated. I think it is worth going no matter what the temperature is. I like going on Friday's.

Definitely wait until fall. It's way too hot out there during the summer. The trade days are kinda down in a valley so all the heat just settles there.

My sister and I go all the time. It really depends on how well you tolorate the heat. It will be hot. Dress cool and wear very comfy shoes. It is not a fashion show out there....be sure you wear cool and cozy stuff. There are huge arbors that are filled with booths and booths of stuff. There are also outdoor vendors that seem to have more antique-estate sale type items. I love to dig through that stuff...I also have decorated a lot of my house this way. There is also a place called Paul Michael Co. that now has a free standing building on the main road going in. You should google it and try to stop there. They have tons of decor. I would also recommend that you go on a Thursday or Friday. Some people aren't aware that almost all vendors are now set up on Thursday. It isn't nearly as crowded as Sat. and Sunday. Each of you should rent a cart....you will need it. We finally just bought one and you wouldn't believe the stuff I have hauled out of there on that poor thing. Fall is always the best time to go...but I say go for it. It really isn't that far away and you will want to go again.

HI A.,

My husband and I went once, it was last year possibly in August or September. On that main road, there is a big indoor antique mall facility, you can park there and the indoor mall has tons of booths and shops and it's air conditioned, best of all! You can go through that place and they have a free shuttle that will also take you to the tents. We ended up spending all our time inside and never made it to the tents but want to next time we ever get out there.

There is also a little restaurant/cafeteria inside the mall too.

Have fun!

It is so much fun! BUT, I would wait until maybe october. If it is hot, you won't have near as much fun! A lot of it is walking outside and it can get very miserable. Have a great time!!

A. -- is that you :)

I used to always hit Canton. I furnished my house house that way. I never really had a problem going in the summer. It is hot but ot miserable. Most the vendors are in the shade (either from tents or trees). There are also some indoor malls. I loved the vendors though finding unique pieces for our home. One hint I have it to take empty overnight bags -- and put your stuff in there. I usually took 2-3. That usually held everything. If it is a large item - you can buy and pick up with your car when you leave. I have never met a vendor who had a problem with that. They rent these little carts, but I think my bags work better. I l hope you enjoy Canton as much I as do. Also, we got there REALLY early and were done by lunch. Also, another hint -- if you are looking for better bargins -- vendors are more likely to sell for a discount on Sunday so they don't have to pack their merchandise back up (this would be for larger more expensive items). ENJOY! L.

If you wait until October more vendors will have out a lot of Christmas stuff. If you like to decorate for Christmas this is a paradise for you. Plus the cooler weather makes for a much more pleasurable experiance. :)

My parents live out there so I've been to first monday quite a bit. Yes it's hot, but it's not crazy unbearable hot. The place is so incredibly huge that don't try and take the whole thing in, in one day. You will wear yourself out. I would suggest either renting a room or figure out what you are looking for and then stay in those areas. For example they have something called Dog Town, this is full of puppies, kittens and all sorts of baby animals. It's hard for me to not to want to take them all home, so I just skip that part. You can always plan another trip to check out areas you didn't get to in the future.

Also remember most of those people like to bargain, so if you see something you like and want to buy, always offer a lower price! ;-) Have fun!
