Crayola theme is ADORABLE!! I wish I had done this....primary colors...big buckets of sidewalk chalk with balloons tied as centerpieces and later given awasy as prizes...I had a girlfriend who did this and I wish I would have thought of it. It was great. It is definitely different and not the same ol same ol. Give away crayons and nontoxic markers as treat bags and website for crayola has additional ideas..www.crayola.com...good luck and hope you like the idea

congrats first off...try orientaltrading.com for some great cheap items to get. My daughters theme was elmo and she turned 2. I bought her a t shirt from ebay that had elmo and her name on it with the #2 it was adorable. Once you have picked a theme it's gets a lil easier. If you happen to pick one let me know I will think of some tings that can help (my friends say it's a sicknes i have..lol), after having three kids (and a step child) i have thrown some good parties.
good luck

Rubber duckies is a nice theme for a boy mostly blue, white and yellow. My son was crazy about ducks and it was a big hit. Gave rubber duckies, and bubbles as party favors and found a very cool cake that looked like a bubble bath.

We had a football theme for my oldest son's 1st birthday and called it "Will's First Down".
It was a week after the Super Bowl so we were able to get lots of cheap football decorations.
Congratulations on one year. It truly is a milestone for the mother and the baby.
I actually started a tradition with both of my boys that I take them to breakfast on their birthdays - just me and the birthday boy. I also give them a birth minute kiss.

We used Elmo for our son's first birthday - don't go crazy as he will not remember anything and more than likely fall aleep. Our pictures show Sam sleeping in front of his birthday cake.

Hi ~ Happy B'day to you too! I used all of the crafts/paintings/colorings that my son had done throughout the year as table decorations. I then sent them home with all of the abundacnce of aunts, uncles and grandparents. They seemed to enjoy it! Balloons from the dollar store work great too!

If I were you I would try not to spend too much on decotations for a first birthday. Honestly he will not remember it. I would just be practical and try to cater to the likes of the guests. I mean, if you are planning on having a lot of children, I would find things the decorate with that they will enjoy. Crayons and chalk are always a big hit. You could cover the tables with paper and just let the kids go to town. I have three kids and I can tell you that the best parties that I have attended with the kids are the ones that keep the kids busy. If it is warm out let the kids play with water. Put buckets of water out with cups and stuff for them to play with and they will love it. the same is true with sand. I think that the best theme is to just make as fun as possible. the more hands on stuff for kids to do the better. If you are looking to decorate so that the house/yard look cute. I wouls just get a few things that might match the invitation and a cute cake and you are set. My sister-in-law decorates cakes and for my daughter's first birthday she did her cake to match the invitation. I had matching napkins and cake plates and the rest of the party was all about the kids!! You might want to talk to your guests and find out what kinds of things thier kids like. Good Luck.
