I am moving to Charleston from Cleveland OH. I am pregnant with our first child, so I have never gone through this before. I am very early, 5 weeks. I know I need to schedule my first appointment at around week 10. I need referrals on a great OBGYN. I want someone who is patient and kind and won't mind answering all my questions. I also want someone who knows how to control a situation if one will arise. Any suggestions?

Welcome to Charleston! Congradulations also!! I just had my first baby in Sept and a co worker told me that her OB was great. He is a man which I didn't want but I decided to go anyway. His name is Dr. Robert Flowers he is with the Charleston OB/GYN. They have offices on Leeds Ave, Mt. Pleasant, James Island and downtown. I think that he is great. I was a very paranoid pregnant woman and I would call constantly. His nurse Connie is great and she was always there to answer my questions. I ended up having a c-section and that went great. He did a great job on everything and I have a very healthy little boy. I hope that you find someone that is right for you and congradulations again! :)

I moved to Charleston from Michigan about 7 years ago for the warmer weather as well. I have been with Dr. Karen Hallmark at Mt. Pleasant OBGYN since I moved and think she is great. My daughter is 15 months old and Dr. Hallmark did a great job answering all my questions about my first pregnancy. All the doctors at Mt. Plesant OBGYN are female, I am not sure if you have a preference and from what I could tell they are all very nice. (You have to meet with every doctor there during the last couple weeks of your pregancy because you never know which doctor will be on call when you go into labor.) Dr. Hallmark delivered my baby. Make your appointment soon with whatever OBGYN you choose. They want you to start prenatal vitamins as soon as possible. Congratulations on your pregnancy!

When I had my daughter, my husband was still in service, and so I had a Navy Doctor. When we got out of the Navy I started seeing Erin Cato at Coastal Women's Care. So, I have not seen her as a pregnant lady, but I have had several personal issues (including PMDD according to my hubby, and birth control issues)....and each time I've called or gone in she's always been amazing. She takes the time to talk with you and LISTEN to you, the staff there is wonderful as well...and it's in the same medical park as Trident Hospital, so if a problem were to arise they could get you to the hospital in a few minutes literally. If you'd like her contact info, just let me know and I can get it for you...
GOOD LUCK in the move and your pregnancy!

The OBGYN group listed below is popular in this area. They have more than one location and have multiple doctors to choose from. OR any MUSC doctor would be fine.

well i had my daughter six years ago. I used Dr. Lynn Crymes at Lowcountry OB/GYN. Now I am pregnant with my second child and she only does high risk pregnancies now. So I am seeing Dr. Maggie Evans. She is wonderful. She is bright, upbeat, energetic, positive, and knowledgeable. I wouldn't go anywhere else. They are located in West Asley (Charleston) at 10 Farmfield Ave., Charleston, 29407. Their # is ###-###-####. The only thing is that they only deliver at East Cooper, which is in Mt. Pleasant. So that means about a 45 minute trip for me to the hospital, but I feel it is well worth it. If you need any more info you can email me at ____@____.com I would be happy to help any way I can. Congrats and good luck on both the move and the new baby.

What part of town are you moving too? That would help to determine an area that has great dr's for you. Congrats on finding out you are pregnant, that's the thing it happens when we least expect it. I"m also a hairstylist so I know how it is to work and be pregnant. Good Luck. I'm in the goose creek south carolina area.

I delivered two of my three children with Dr. Wade Boatwright in Bon Secours St. Francis. He is a GREAT doctor. For my third child when we moved back to Charleston, I specifically only wanted him. He takes medicaid which is what I had for my first child, and the whole experience was great. For my third child I had tricare standard. The only thing I didn't like was that his wife takes too long to do the medical coding and my insurance won't know for months that I've even been seen. I am currently pregnant with baby #4 and I am with Dr. Boatwright again, but am still having issues with insurance. I would definitely recommend him if you have medicaid, but not if you have Tricare Standard. He does take other insurances but I'm not sure which. He is a wonderful doctor...even my mother in law liked him alot and I was completely comfortable with him.
