I get those blisters all the time. Ever since I was little. I use Abreva. It cuts down the healing time on it. It works great.

I've never had them myself but my husband used to get them and I knew an RN at the time that said to use Acetone Nail polish remover. My husband said that it hurt quite a bit but in a good way and it made it go away really quick.. Hope that helps

Try Abreva. Its a tiny little tube and expensive (about 20 bucks for 2gm), but it works immediately without a prescription and it lasts, a little goes a long way.

Also hot compresses help too.

Hope you get rid of that thing!

Campho Phenique works every time. Even if you just feel one coming on (tingling sensation on the corner of your mouth), put some gel on it and it never appears!

You should try Abreva. My husband uses it when he get's them and it works great. It is a small tube and you just apply the ointment. You should be able to find it at any Pharmacy (it is over-the-counter).

You can try Lysene (sp) ointment. You can get that at your health food store or vitamin store. One of the B vitamins taken with Lysene works even better. You vitamin person should know which B it is. If you want to try a prescription try Zovirax or Valtrex. It's the medicine they give to genital herpes patients but keep in mind that your fever blister is a form of herpes. Your dr/dentist can write the prescription.

I get them too, and I use Abreva. It is a bit expensive, but it gets rid of it much quicker than just leaving it. It comes in a blue box and the tube is super small, but you only need to use a very small amount a couple times a day for a few days. You can even start it when you feel the tingling coming on and it will make the recovery time much faster.

I use Abreva. It is a bit expensive, but it works!!!!! The tube is small but it last a long time because you wont use the entire tube at one time. Good luck.

Hi K., you might want to try tea tree or lavandar pure essential oil. Any health food store or Whole Foods Market will have them. Just a drop or two on a q-tip, apply gently but very firmly, hold the q-tip on the sore for several seconds. Do several times a day using a fresh q-tip every time. Tastes bitter, but it works. Good luck, hope it works for you.

Most people will get a tingle or indication of a "fever blister" coming on (this is called prodrome.) Fever blisters are a form of herpes virus but not necessarily related to genital herpes, in fact, most are NOT related. The best way to treat this is with a prescription called Valtrex. It is FDA approved as for a one day treatment, 2 one-gram pills twice a day for one day (four pills in one day) that works best when you first have the prodrome or at the first sign of a fever blister. If you have more than 6 outbreaks a year, you may want to consider suppresive therapy in which you take medication daily or in times of higher than normal ourbreaks (like in the summer when heat can re-activate the virus.) The bonus of this is that you reduce shedding of the virus which may or may not happen with an outbreak. You can spread the virus even if you have no symptoms, but it is more likely to happen when you have a visible outbreak.

Zovirax and Famvir are other anti-virals that can work but you typically have to take more of the medication to have simlar effects to the Valtrex. All of these are prescription so you should see your doctor to get one.

Stay away from caffeine, it will aggravate it. Also, ibubrofen will help. If you are prone to them there is medication your doctor can prescribe that works better than anything out there over the counter.
