I am in my mid 30s and I have been trying to get pregnant for 2 years but no sucess. I have M/C 3 month ago. I was taking "Cromid" for 3 month when I became pregnant. The Dr. did some test to find the cause of my M/C and it was due to Chomosome 15, I was refer to see a Generic counseler, she did some test and everything was ok, beside that she find I am a FX carrier(Fragile X), she said sometimes is hard to become pregnant for a woman with this condiction. Does anybody have this problem. What should I do to become pregant.

Thanks

So What Happened?

I want to thanks everyone who support me with their suggestions. I saw the Genetic counselor and thanks God, she said don't worried about it. I am only 3 point over the normal count(31 & 48 cgg repeats), this means that I can have healthy and normal child. She said the risk of affected child in the next generation is small.

Make an appointment with an infertility specialist. Find out more about Fragile X because it can cause an inherited mental retardation.

Don't know what your personal insurance situation is but I went to IVF of NJ for fertility issues. They were fantastic. I would at least consult with them.

Try to find a fertility specialist that has experience with Fragile X carriers and chromosomal abnormality carriers. At the very least a good fertility specialist can advise you on your options. They may be able to help you through IVF. It is extremely expensive to do IVF if your insurance does not cover it, but some insurance companies do cover it before your 40th birthday.

CoQ10 supplements and acupuncture are also helpful, but you still may not want to risk it if your odds of having a baby with a birth defect are extremely high.

best of luck.

I had other problems.. and had a few M/C. I finally just adopted.. I was to scared with the fear of having a handicapped child. Have you asked what your chances are of that? since you had the one M/C and it was because of a chomosone problem... I had a brother who was handicapped and I knew I couldn't face all those challenges. Each person is different.. Maybe all will be well with you but ask a lot of questions? so you will know what they expect from your condition. I adopted two wonderful cchildren through Holt International. They are the apples of my eyes. i wouldn't trade them for anything.. they are truely my children. I love them so very much. I hope that your will become pregnant and it will all work out.. but ask the dr.'s what could happen just do you know in advance.... and good luck

I understand the desperation of wanting to get pregnant, but did you discuss ramifications of being a fragile X carrier for the baby? I hope the Genetic Counceler explained to you what it might mean to your chid(son, I think) if it was passed to him.

Not sure I have any help as far as the getting pregnant part but as far as the miscarriage I have heard of women taking Lovenox (an injectible blood thinner)during the pregnancy and that has reduced the number of miscarriages and allowed them to carry the baby full term.
