i am going to be having surgery in about 3 weeks. my bottle of fenugreek says to stop taking 2 weeks prior to surgery. I'm using fenugreek to build milkk supply. should i do what bottle says?
Yes. Most herbal supplements aren't really regulated by the FDA, so they aren't required to say anything like that. There must really be a reason to stop taking it. I would definitely stop taking it.
It depends on what type of surgery and what method. In theory, fenugreek can increase the chances of bleeding. An open vs. laproscopic procedure is more worrisome in terms of excessive bleeding. You should call your surgeon and have a discussion about the risks. They may let you continued, but at least it can be noted in the chart so everyone is aware of possible complications.
Call your surgeon's office and ask. It might depend on the surgery. I had a mole removed when I was taking Fenugreek while breastfeeding and I didn't have to stop it, but you might have to for other surgeries. Check with the doctor to be safe.

There are a few other things that actually help your milk supply more. I don't know if they would also reccomend you not take them prior to surgery. Domperidone is the best, but hard to get a hold of. Talk to a LC and pump pump pump. Good luck!
Talk to your doctor, and also find a lactation consultant. The LC may be able to help you find an alternative method to building your supply. Mine was a godsend! You can check with your hospital or ob/gyn to get a referral. Good luck!
Of course you should. It doesn't say it for nothing. You could endanger yourself if you continue and get surgery.
The best way to increase milk production is to pump or nurse for about 8 to 10 minutes every 2 hours (at least). It is never how long you pump or nurse, it is HOW OFTEN.
Give it a try for 24 hours - I bet you will see a jump in milk supply.
yes-definitely. check with your doc too b/c there are several other meds you need to stop taking as well (Ibuprofen, fish oil for example)
