Hello moms! I have an 11 month old growing boy! I was wondering if any of you have any great ideas as to what I can or should feed him at breakfast and lunch? He will have nothing to do with baby food except those graduate snacks. He loves to eat what we have at dinner time. But during the day my DH and older son are gone so it's just me and him. He is not allergic to anything!

What can I do next?

At that age my little girl loved the french vanilla instant oatmeal...... she still loves it today!!!! I would make it thick and sometimes add cinnamon to it. She also loved scrambled eggs with a little gravy on them!!!!

Try the book Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron. It is available at Borders and online. It is amazing and has so much information on feeding an infant thru the toddler years.. and so many recipie ideas! I think it is about $20, and well worth the money!

When my son was that age he loved fish stick, cheese sticks and green beans. He is now 25 and still loves them of course he eats more now. Really anything that is a finger food is great. At this age everything goes in the mouth anyway give him finger food.

Hi C.! In addition to what everyone else has said, I also give my daughter broken up pieces of bagel with cream cheese for breakfast. One of my friends suggested making brown rice and just before the rice is done add diced fruit. It is so good! I've used mango, peach, plum etc. Fresh or canned works. You can also add veggies, but add them earlier so they cook well. We like broccoli, spinach and squash. There are some really good websites out there too for ideas. Just search home made baby food. I try to keep whole grain noodles boiled and ready in the refrigerator too. One day I'll warm them with some organic spaghetti sauce and cottage cheese. The next I'll warm them with some pesto sauce and I also keep an olive oil vinegarette to make a quick pasta salad for her. She LOVES pasta salad! Good luck!

Oatmeal was a staple for both my sons at that age. Also dry "finger food" cereal with a cup of milk. For lunch we did mac and cheese or cut up deli meats and cheese.

My son was about this age when he would no longer let me feed him. He would shove my hand away, making a BIG mess with baby food. He wanted to feed himself, so I gave him small pieces of soft food that he could pick up with his hands, but would still be safe for him to chew. For breakfast, he loved the NutriGrain Cereal Bars and diced fruit. I would cut the cereal bars into small pieces for him. Scrambled eggs are also great. For lunch, I would give him a canned veggie like green bean, peas, or carrots along with some Vienna Sausages cut into small pieces. My son also loved the Gerber Graduates meals, especially the pasta pick-ups. Your son probably just wants to feed himself, so whatever you feel safe giving him will be fine.

Hi C.! My son is almost 14 mos & though he will eat "jar" baby food or anything pureed, he's very picky about everything else. :( For breakfast he eats scrambled eggs, bananas, & Yo Baby yogurt. I even eat the Yo Baby because its so good. Sometimes I'll "sneak" other stuff in his eggs like veggies or cheese. At lunch he loves Gerber organic pasta pick-ups. If you have a pretty good eater, try warming up left overs. Also, even though he won't touch them I buy bags of frozen veggies like peas, carrots, green beans, even edamame & make a small portion for him at lunch & put on his highchair tray. I usually end up scooping them up & putting them in the food processor like baby food, but if your baby will eat them that would be great. Though its not working for us thus far, we just try to keep in mind what his pedi told us. Eventually you want him to eat what you eat. Good luck! I sincerely hope it goes better for you than it has for us! :)

My daughter is 14 month's old and she loves breakfast! But I was in your same shoes, wondering what was better. So now I start off with just a fruit granola bar, kroger brand because they are really gummy and she only has 7 teeth! But she east that while I make her a scrambled egg with a little cheese in it!! LOVES THAT! Other morning I will give her just plain oatmeal, 1/4 cup, with the same amount of water maybe a little more water and then pop it in the microwave for 1 min. and then I add cinnamon and raisens to it!! She loves it so much! But I know she is getting full on both and she just loves them!!!

I have a 10 month old and I've made all of his food since we started feeding him solids. Just this last batch that I made I didn't puree everything, some things I kept in little chunks. He loves feeding himself so I steamed carrots and peas and green beans and broccoli and just chunked them up and froze them in little serving sizes. So now for lunch I just warm up some of the frozen veggies and he loves it!

I'm not sure how many teeth your little guy has, but I feed my 10mth old a lot of the same things that we eat.

BF Ideas: cheerios, bananas, peaches, pancakes, applesauce, waffles, blueberries, strawberries (he had allergy testing done a month ago and we ended up finding out that he wasnt allergic to some of the things they arent supposed to have yet - like strawberries), cheese

LUNCH: again, same things we eat. meatloaf, all noodles, turkey sandwich (but up in small pieces), all kinds of steamed veggies (potatoes, carrots, green beans, peas, squash, sweet potatoes, etc etc etc), goulash, spaghetti (i allow the sauce, you'd think i loved to clean - not true!)

not sure if this is any help, but good luck! i always try to do a variety.

Hi C.-

My 10 month old still eats the baby oatmeal cereal for breakfast. I just make it thicker than I used to and add some apple sauce or mashed up banana to it. Pretty soon I'll be trying cut up frozen waffles and toast with him. For lunch my son loves diced cooked carrots and green beans. Macaroni and cheese is always a favorite. Sometimes I cut up ravioli without the sauce to avoid a mess. I also buy the Kraft Crumbles type cheese and he loves that.

Good Luck,
K.

We went through ALOT of oatmeal when our daughter was that age. Also, you could make pancakes and waffles... there are semi-healthy ones out there. :~) Then there are the standard Cheerios that we still keep in supply at our house. Hope these suggestions help.

Just feed that child. Go nutritious and safe. Avoid peanuts and strawberries for a while. Also the other heavy hitter allergy commoners like red dies, shell fish, heavy additive things with preservatives from boxed or bagged junk, and heavy dairy. As the child gets a little older the chance of developing an allergy to these things is less. Don't microwave his food. It's just not good. If he were my dad's grandbaby he certainly would be eating any and all table food with my dad cause that is just how he is and it seems to work for all of us kids and grandkids 29 in all. But my mom and dad have their own cows, garden, orchard, pecan trees, eggs, and goats milk that they cook and eat from. So we were especially blessed. Cows milk protein is really a very large particle (or molecule, whichever)and is more difficult for the human body (especially under 1) to digest. Fresh goats milk is more similar to breast milk. Good milk goats come in two breeds. 1 produces more milk per day but tastes kind of weird and nutty. The other 1 produces less milk but it tastes fantastic. My parents have the latter. Most store bought goats milk is from the former and thats why people think it tastes funny or even bad. If you don't nurse then goats milk is the better than formula. Formula and Baby food are unnecessary and simply a money maker for the companies. My children have never had either one. My children nursed for 2 1/2 years each ( they stopped when they wanted to). They started eating from the table at about 6 months. The cooking included soft things they could eat. I did not spice much. My husband had to add salt to his food. We also have a vegetable juicer and make carrot/apple/beet/parsley/celery juice and the kids drank it no problem. After about 15 months the nursing seems to be more of a comfort issue rather than nutrition although they were never sick. No ear infections, constipation, colic, or flu or anything until about 3 1/2 years old. The nursing really helps the immune system. Equally important to me is the connection that is developed during nursing and with the emotional oral satisfaction neither of my kids used a pacifier or sucked their thumb or any other dependency type device. I realize you are not nursing the 11 month old and cannot start. I only explain all of this so that you have the information if you have another child. But the feeding thing and the goats milk certainly can apply now. And remember, no one eats the same all the time. He will have times when he eats like a pig and can't get enough and other times when he is real picky and eats very little for a while. That's just fine and not unusual. Oh by the way just because the whole family isn't home doesn't mean that the 2 of you shouldn't have regular meals just like dinner. You have to take good care of yourself and be a little selfish that way in order to be okay to take care of your family.
Good Luck and God Bless,

I have a 13 month old and she pretty much eats whatever my husband and I eat with the exception for certain things if she doesn't like them. I love the gerber graduates meals for toddlers as well and she likes most of them. Some of her favorite foods are avocados and black beans, cheese enchiladas and rice and beans, tortillas, rolls, green beans, chicken, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, apples, bananas, yogurt, puffs, gerber meat sticks, canned fruit slices, (pears, peaches) apples sauce, oatmeal with cinnamon sprinkled in it made with apple juice instead of water or milk. Earth's best mini blueberry waffles, fish crackers, graham crackers, vanilla cookies, grilled cheese, sliced american cheese, mac and cheese, lunch meat...... I could go on and on. :) She is a good eater and loves food. Anyway.... good luck.

I have a 12 month old that I am trying to wean from breastmilk and baby food. My husband and I both leave pretty early for work so breakfasts have to be quick and easy. I have found that my son loves cut up turkey sausage - the precooked kind that you heat in the microwave. I can put that on his tray and he will feed himself while I work on getting ready for the day. Also, cut up bananas are a staple at our house (though, this can get messy because they are so much fun to squish around). Yogurt, waffles, other fruits, apple sauce and oatmeal have also been fairly successful. For lunch and dinner, we do pretty much whatever we can find - leftovers, sandwich meat, cheese, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, avacado (again - very messy). I still rely on jarred baby veggies since I cannot seem to find the time or energy to prepare enough vegetables for him.

good luck!

My Daughter will be 11 months old Saturday. She loves yogurt. Dannon's Dan-o-nino Yogurt for babies has no corn syrup or food colorings, she loves it. Also I give her scrambled egg yokes (check with your doctor b4 giving egg whites because of allergies).Cheese and fruit, avocados and bananas, Crackers, Dry cereal. If he will eat meat the Gerber Graduates has meat sticks that can be cut up, also there are Graduate cereal bars. Hope this helps.
