Feeding a Large Group

My husband and I have get together every sunday at our house with about 10 people. Everyone loves my cooking and I enjoy playing hostess, but I am running out of recipes to feed this many people and I don't want to serve the same thing. I have made chili, spaghetti, Chicken noodle soup, beef stew, Pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs and burgers. I want something that is relatively cheap to make. I love to use my crockpot just because my little apartment gets so hot with the oven on, so crock pot recipes would be awesome! Thanks :)

What can I do next?

Lil' smokies, potatoes and green beans! Throw it all in the crock pot and let it cook until it's done (if you're using canned green beans add them at the very end so they don't get mushy). Infinitely customizable depending on ow many people you're feeding and the carnivore to herbivore ratio of the guests. And AWESOME with fresh green beans and the little new potatoes....

I understand the need for more recipes, after all new recipes are good. Still your reason I don't understand. If you were serving the same thing every week it would get old but rotating what you already have is perfectly normal. Most people expect it, some may be thinking jeez I really loved her pulled pork why hasn't she made it again. Really if someone thinks you need to come up with new ideas forever you may want to explain to them you are not a restaurant. If they insist you are a restaurant I see no reason why you shouldn't present them with the bill. :p

Italian and Mexican beef are easy to make in the crock pot. You can google Italian beef and the only difference to Mexican is changing up the spices.

Taco salads-everyone puts their own together from a wide variety of ingrediets: meat, black beans, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, corn, cucumbers, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, chips. You can add other things you think of as well. Always goes over great because people only eat what they like and don't feel funny for not eating something in particular
Salad with grilled chicken
Chipotle bowls (basmati rice with lime juice and fresh cilantro, black beans, grilled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, cheese--similar to the taco salad but with chicken instead of taco meat)
garlic chicken wraps: marinate chicken in a balsamic vinegar/oil marinade, and grill it. Cut up cucumbers, tomatoes to put in wrap, add feta cheese and a creamy garlic dressing on top. Yum!
Enjoy! I love to entertain, too!

Pork Verde, very easy in the crock pot!

Throw some Velveeta and chili in the crock pot and have some nachos?

Get a couple packages of pre-made frozen meatballs and some marinara sauce and some hogie buns and have meatball subs, yummy!

Rachel Ray has an awesome recipe called 'Pumpkin Pasta' that is made w/sweet Italian sausage and it is wonderful and scales up nicely!!

There...that should get you through another month :)

A family favorite of ours in Crockpot Chicken Salsa.
Boneless chicken breast
Jarred Chunky salsa
Envelope of taco seasonings
Dump all into the crockpot and cook on high (I usually cook it for 4-5 hours). I serve it with warm corn tortillas, sliced avocados, shredded cheese, and sour cream. As a side I make yellow rice or Spanish rice. My family devours it!

bbq shredded chicken.....precook the chicken, shred it, & let it simmer in a crockpot. Excellent on Texas Toast. Serve it with cole slaw.

cajun: I add cooked meat (chicken, hamburger, sausage, etc) .....& 1 can of Italian tomatoes to Zatarains dirty rice mix. I have big eaters & usually use 2 batches of this for my family of 4 adult-size appetities....which leaves enough leftovers for one lunch. Serve it with a quick salad & you're good to go!

marinate chunks of chicken in Italian/Caesar salad dressing. Stir fry in some olive oil. Serve in a really good Italian salad with cheesy french bread. OR serve on top of some garlic spaghetti....which can be in a crockpot.

& stranger than strange, I've been doing pork roast in the crockpot ....but in beef broth with lots of onions, garlic, & celery. It is amazingly good....& my family loves the richness of the flavors. Seems weird to use beef broth, but it's awesome.....

**I would avoid any meal where the guests assemble their own....sandwiches, etc. The cost runs higher with self-assembly......& takes longer to serve.

Sandwiches and salads are great for hot weather. Place the fixings out and let everyone make their own. Chicken quesadillas are also simple to make:
CHICKEN QUESADILLAS
cooked chicken (rotisserie works well)
shredded Monterey Jack and/or Cheddar cheese
finely chopped green onion
flour tortillas
salsa
sour cream
Combine the chicken and salsa. Place chicken, cheese and green onions evenly among tortillas.
Cover with another tortilla. Heat one tortilla stack in a large skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes.
Turn tortilla over and repeat for another 2-3 minutes or until cheese is melted.
Serve with sour cream and salsa.

And what we do for weekly home fellowships is meet at the same home each week, but do pot luck. Each family brings a dish, we place them out and serve ourselves. I've found I love chicken curry, and everyone now knows I'm deathly allergic to shrimp and avocado :-/ and warns me when either is in a dish❤

We do a similar event with 8 folks.
We've had pretty consistent and pleasing results from the following cookbook:
http://www.amazon.com/Your-Mothers-Slow-Cooker-Cookbook/d...
Some of the recipes are super easy, some less so, but they have all turned out decently
FWIW, we also tend to do sort of potluck - non-hosts bring cheese, bread, wine, desert, or whatever.

A roast is what I usually make in my crock pot. Use 1 packet of Lipton onion soup mix (dry), 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup, 1/2 can water & a 2-3 lb. (I think) Roast. The longer it cooks , the more tender it gets! I add potatoes too. Not sure if that would feed 10 ppl though. Need a big crockpot & more roast! :) yummmm! My husband likes carrots in the roast, but I prefer to boil them on the stove because they make everything taste like carrots! And green bean casserole is a good side dish too!

You can do a roast, potatoes and carrots in the crock pot...just buy a big roast (big big)....and I hope you have a big crock pot. Ours is a 7 quart...big enough. We also do sloppy joes (homemade) in it for birthday parties...we personally like to use Jack Daniels no. 7 recipe barbecue sauce with worcestershire, etc.

On a colder day, you can do a couple lasagna's in disposable pans...that's easy enough (get the "no boil" noodles) and it's easy to make large batches. Couple loaves of garlic bread...yum!

How about a pizza party where everyone makes their own individual pizza with store bought dough and topping ingredients set out? Or how about a taco bar? My mother makes a killer cornbread salad with chunks of homemade cornbread, beans, salad-- the works! And it keeps for a couple of days and makes lots. What about a potato bar--- bake lots of potatoes and everyone tops their own? You can make lots of yummy things from the leftovers a couple of days later, too. Another thought--- how about a potluck dinner where everyone brings their own favorite dish? I think it is so cool that you offer this to your friends-- what a gift and a blessing to have a time and place to socialize and bond. Take care!

-Swedish Meatballs - cook the meatballs in the crock pot, serve with mashed potatoes or noodles, sauce, and lingonberrys on the side.
-I like to do a pasta bar when I am serving a crowd because it works for vegetarians too. Pasta, white sauce, red sauce, grilled chicken, meatballs, and cheese fill the bar so everyone gets what they like. Serve with a salad and garlic bread.
-Enchilada chicken - fill your crockpot with frozen chicken breasts, pour a can of enchilada sauce over it and cook on high for 4 hours. Cut up or shred the chicken and use on taco salads or in burritos.
-Fajitas could probably be done in the crock pot too.

My favorite magazine has always been Taste of Home. They used to have a page in each edition called Cooking (or Food) for a Crowd. Each of these recipes are for larger groups than the normal family ones. They are some of my favorite recipes when I am planning meals, even up to 125 people. They are my first resource. I have all of my editions in magazine holders and they are out of reach and kept put up.

If you have a library that has the older editions then you can go through them and copy some of the ones you can use. You might also be able to do inner-library loan but I am not sure about that option for magazines.
