Favorite Cloth Diaper Gear

You can google wipe recipies. My fav is water, olive oil, lavender and tea tree oil. I use a wipe container from when I used huggies. I have heard that using a wipe warmer is nice. But I haven't tried it. I LOVE MY PLANET WISE WET BAG. get the one that is a wet and dry bag. One side you put the used ones and the other side you can put the clean ones! It's sooooooooo nice. I seriously don't know what I did with out it. Oh yeah, I used disposables when we went out and about. Now that I have it, it only use disposables when my son goes to daycare ( I hate that cloth diapers aren't allowed to be used in state licensed daycares and I am on DC assistance :( )
For a pail i just use a trash can with a lid. I would suggest one that seals. Mine doesn't just because I couldn't afford the ones that can. But I make a spray with water and just a few drops of the lavender and tea tree oil and spray it when ever I put a diaper in the pail. Also baking soda helps A LOT!

I love my cloth wipes, Kissaluvs potion (to make a wipes spray when combined with witch hazel), biodegradable liners once baby starts solids-the Bummis brand are very soft, I just bought a Bummis medium wet bag to replace another brand I bought initially and I'm loving the Bummis one-no smells, no wetness seeping thru the bag, I use a large wet bag with a drawstring (got it from greenmountaindiapers.com) that I use to line a small trash can with a lid to hold the diappies till wash time, I have had good luck using Arm & Hammer Free & Clear Essentials to wash with (only about a tablespoon does the trick). I also love our Bummis swim diaper. We have used the same one for 2 summers now! It holds poo very, very well the couple of times my daughter has had an accident.

We've cloth diapered since birth! There are things we love: BumGenius diaper sprayer (lifesaver!), planet wise and wet happened wet bags. We didn't put our wipes in anything. We put the solution in a spray bottle and sprayed the wipe with it. Rockin Green detergent is great, but has to be ordered online. We use Country Save, because we can buy it at Sprouts and Whole Foods. We also use Calgon every so often, for our hard water. For the pail, we just use a regular little trash can. Since you wash the diapers often, we've never noticed a smell at all. One thing you have to be careful of, is diaper rash cream. If your little one ever gets a rash, you want to put a barrier between the bottom and the diaper. Diaper rash cream is not good for cloth. (I used a cloth wipe for the barrier) Gradma Els diaper rash cream, is cloth diaper compatible. Here is my wipe solution:

1 tablespoon apricot oil (Burts Bees has an awesome apricot oil!!)
1 tablespoon unscented baby wash
3 cups water

Love, love, love planet wise wet bags! Expensive but oh so great. They make this one that is a wet/dry bag, and it doesn't leak through! I use the small one for swimsuits. Wonderful.

The wet bag. It is useful beyond diapers. I bought one with a draw string from Green Living many years ago. It was useful for diapers. Now that my kids are all out of diapers, I still use it. You never know when a little one is going to spill, get sick, or you need something to carry a wet bathing suit.

We've been cloth diapering since birth and my son is now two, so we've been through almost all the diapering stages. I use a regular plastic trash can with a lid (step on, lifts up) for a diaper pail, although I mostly keep the lid open as that helps keep the smells down. For a pail liner, and for wet bags I use Mommy's Touch brand. I love them - they wash super easy and I've never had a leak. They also come in a variety of colors and sizes. I bought my Mommy's Touch pail liner and wet bags at greenmountaindiapers.com although the Mommy's Touch brand is available elsewhere as well.

For wipes I use the two-sided wipes from greenmountaindiapers.com. They are terry cotton on one side and flannel cotton on the other. Nice for cleaning poops as one side is good for grabbing up messes and the other is nice and soft for finishing up. I just use water I keep in a thermos pump pot nearby to wet the wipes and then spray the wipes with Kissaluvs diaper lotion potion. I bought the concentrate and make it up as I go along. In two years I still have half a bottle of Kissaluvs concentrate left. A little goes a LONG way.

I also found some Thirsties brand wipes in a store and bought them to try. I like these as well, they are also two-sided and a little softer and bigger than the ones I got from green mountain diapers. Looking back, I probably would have gone with these as my main wipes instead. Thirsties brand cloth diapers and wipes are available in many internet stores.

My daughter used a diaper pail with a lid, threw them in the wash, etc. She also used cloth wipes, makes them and sells them on Diaper swappers. In 2 weeks she has sold 100 flannel wipes. They are also good for baby wash cloths. Have fun and it saves a lot of money. If you want cloth wipes, they fit in a wipes diaper bag holder, etc. call me at ###-###-####. A recipe for wipes is not neessary. Water works fine and FYI , Smiths diaper rash cream is the best, washes off clean and is not sticky, etc. Good Luck

We used a regular flip-top trash can for a pail, lined with an inexpensive laundry bag that I just tossed in with the diapers. My favorite wipes were homemade- I had a friend with a serger, and used a old towel and a pair of pj bottoms back to back to make about 30 wipes. The flannel on one side and terry on the other is perfect. We had our changing station in the bathroom, so I just wet them under the faucet.

I'm a fan of Charlie's Soap, too. The Central Market in Fort Worth carries it, but not the other three CMs in the metroplex. I've tried to get Whole Foods to carry it, but no luck.

Favorite wetbags: Kushies. Can't beat the price, and they work nicely.

Diaper pail: I use a regular covered trash can
Pail liner: I don't use one. I just spray the pail with Bio-Kleen after each use.
Wipes: Cut up a couple of prefolds or old baby wash clothes. They work really well!

I also love Charlie's Laundry Soup for washing the diapers. Recommended for cloth diapers by our local diapering store (also recommended is Rockin Green, but it is a LOT more expensive). No harsh chemicals or fragrance, biodegradable, made without petroleum (all of the free-and-clears use petroleum, which continues our dependence on oil...) and you can buy it on amazon.com if you don't have a store that sells it locally.
