We are heading on vacation in a few days and I need some aps to load on the Kindle Fire to keep him busy on the plane. Right now all he wants to do is watch Thomas videos!

***I guess I need to add, that my son IS NOT one of those kids that uses electronics and I AM one of those parents that interacts with him through conversation and other games/toys and imaginative activites. However, I am all set with those...what I am asking is if you have any suggestions for apps on the Kindle, in case we need it. I mearly suggested that all he wants to do on the kindle right now was watch Thomas videos...not suggesting that this is all I LET him do. THANK YOU for those that got the message and suggested some useful tips.

What can I do next?

I just have to wonder how people ever took kids anywhere without all these electronics to keep the kids occupied so parents didn't have to interact with them. Oh, that's right, I'm one of those parents.

We actually talked to, played with or read to our kids on the plane. Imagine that!

Cheryl B. - my goodness. Wake up on the wrong side of the bed?

I agree with littlepiggytoes. Go through the app store in the Fire and see what might interest him. Download them - you can delete ones that he doesn't like. Sesame Street is a good start. So is Nick Jr.

Do some other videos too - try Max and Ruby. Elmo. Barney.

Have fun!

I would find it much easier to go thru the Kindle APPS & choose what you want for him that are age appropriate.Try them read how the games are played before purchasing if they are not free.

Coloring books and crayons
Real books of Thomas
activity books with stickers and stuff
small train toys

Honestly, I am of the age wherein my child was raised without electronics. He was able to happily entertain himself, or be entertained, with "regular" toys.

Looking out the plane window, and finding animals in the clouds is cool also.

Can you pair the Kindle with some hands-on activities like coloring books, picture books, etc?

What about other favorite videos besides Thomas.

Is this a long flight?

We took our 3-year-old on a 3 hour flight and she didn't watch one video. We had Elmo ready but she was so excited about the plane ride that she just chatted and then conked out.

We have an iPad, but I think at least some of these apps are on the Kindle Fire too. They are all free (although you can pay to get them without ads, but I never do):

My 2 year old likes to play angry birds. He doesn't play the game 'correctly' - he often flings the birds backwards by mistake, but he thinks it's hysterical no matter which way they fly.

I also did a search for "free toddler" and got a shape sorting games that my guy likes to play. It's simply called "Shapes" and by the developer ToddlerTeasers.

There are also books that read themselves to the child and have games incorporated - very cute. The ones I have are by the developer TabTale, I have one called "Dog Story" and "Xmas Tale". This developer has a bunch and they are all free (with ads) or for a small price without ads.

I have one that has pictures of animals and when you tap it, the animals make sounds. It's called Farm Animals by PhotoTouch.

My kids also like Race Penguins and Bubble Birds. I also downloaded one called Sketchpad that kids can just draw with their finger.

Again, you might not find all of these because I have an iPad, but I'm betting you can find a lot of them - or something similar - in kindle format as well.
