We did a stepping stone last year and will do another one this year. My daughter loved making it and we have lots of garden area to put them in.

I'm a big believer in getting something for him made by the kids and I've told him to do the same for me for mothers day. So for the last 5 years (I'm also big on tradition) the boys have decorated a t-shirt for him with fabric paint. The t-shirt is decorated with their hand-prints/foot-prints/names/year/etc. I design it, but it's the kids that do the work. He loves them! This year I'm going to try tie-dying....

Dear K. W.,

I think if you spend any time outdoors at all sitting around, a chair with a cup holder and pockets for other things are nice. I mean the type of chair that is for outdoors and folds up easily and has a carrying strap for taking to other places. I won ours for my husband from our local t.v. station and he uses it every year when the weather is warm. It was about $40 three years ago so the price may have come down by now. Almost any department store has them and also stores like Menards and Lowe's usually do as well.
Hope this helps.

What about a digital photo keychain? I bought one for my husband and one for my son-in-law last year. What's great is that you can always update the pictures. And what a great way for Dad to show off pictures of his family! I see them advertised all the time in the sales papers now (I think maybe Target, Kohls, etc.) but I bought mine from ebay last year.

Hi K.! I have 3 kids, mostly grown now...and since we were shopping for Father's Day, I made sure they came with me and helped choose the gift. Same thing for Mother's Day...we both have gotten some lame gifts, but they mostly were memorable because each gift had a special meaning to each child! Some included: a Kit Kat bar (from my then 5 year old, he said: 'because it's your favorite', a bottle washer ('to scrub your back in the shower'), a can holder for the fridge ('for your beer'!!--that one was for dad!)...Today, there are Dollar Stores, I'd give your child a few dollars and ask him to pick out three things that dad might like. You'll see that children are more observant and and thoughtful than you think!

This year we are making daddy a homemade plate! We ordered it online from www.makit.com
You can order a kit and have your child draw a picture with special markers and then they make it into a plastic plate or you can upload a photo that they can print onto a plate.
The preschool that I teach at does this every year for Mother's Day, but I thought it was a great idea for Father's Day too!

Hi K.!

Our daughter will be drawing daddy a picture this year. :-D She's just 9 months old... so we are a bit limited in what she can do.

I am however, getting him a new toiletries bag too though. He travels quite a bit for work and really needs one.

I agree...the best gifts are from the heart.

Hi K.~
What is overboard? You didn't say so I don't know what you spent...thousands? LOL

I am planning to buy my husband (from the kids, of course) a patio set for the deck he built this spring. He turned our back yard into a place we love to gather, so I figure getting some gear to help that purpose would be great! ...or maybe a grill...same reason!

Well I don't know if this applies but I give my husband the day off. No diapers (we have 2 in diapers still and one potty training) no meals and no resposibility except to have fun. He chooses the activities for the day (usually a picnic in the park) and what we eat.

So I say ask him what he wants and go with it, he might suprise you.

God Bless

Hi K.!
Yeah, WE love and appreciate those dads, but guess what? The most important gifts come from the kids themselves. Keep it simple and make it from your son. In years past, we have made a personalized stepping stone with both of their handprints, we have given him homemade tee shirts, hats, and goofy ties. We wrote poems, framed favorite pictures, and bought all of his favorite candy. His favorite gift of all time is the recordable photo cube where my daughter was just learning to say I love you, Daddy. He still tears up when he hits that little button. The best gifts are from the heart and they won't soon be forgotten. It is so heartwarming to see a child pick out or make a gift for a parent all by themselves. My kids remember what they pick out, and soon forget if I pick it out for them. Keep that in mind. Save your money and shower him with love, attention, and family time. That's a gift he'll want to keep forever!! (and it doesn't ever rust!)
Have fun!

How about a photo shoot of your whole family and then some prints of the photos that come from it of him and them. If you get a good photographer, those can be great! Let me know if you need a good photographer. I have an awesome one who will come to you and take tons of pictures of your whole family, posed and interacting.

K.,

Last year my son wrote on one of those decoratable coffee cups. My husband loves using it, especially at work.

In the past we have printed digital photos of the three of us for him to take to work. We have even framed some of our son's artwork for DH to display in his office.

I am giving my husband a set of drill bits, because his have gotten lost or broken and he really needs a replacement sent.

I hope these ideas help.

One year, I made a garden stepping stone with my son's footprints. I also got him a little something to go with it that he really wanted, but nothing big. I've also done a mini photo book for him.

Tickets to a concert or sports game are fun....and a good night out for you two or the whole family!

Really, it depends on his interest and what he needs/wants. I usually try to do one thing that is more from our child, then another thing that is something hubby really wants or could use. Neither have to be expensive...

At your son's age, he may wish to help pick out something and take such pride in it, too!

Best wishes!

This is a silk Father's Day album. We suggest placing one photo, each year, in the 25 page fold out book, of your family, or dad and the kids, engaged in your favorite Father's Day tradition. Then, each year, bring out the album about two weeks before the holiday for the family to enjoy.

You will have an easy, wonderful keepsake that your husband and children will cherish in the years to come!

If you are in my area....I have some in stock and can save you a bit on shipping.

Hi K., does he have a watch?
Or something a little less expensive, I put my son's picture on a coffe mug, or a golf towel, he loved it. I did that on Kodak gallery.com. Good luck!

My husband picked out his gift. He wants grill stuff from Pampered Chef which is my business. He picked the stainless grill basket, large turner and BBQ sauce basting bottle. He also wants a few of our spices for grilling like chipotle rub and smoky bbq rub. Take a look online at www.pamperedchef.biz/foodfunfriends.
