Family Trip to Hawaii with 10Yo, 4Yo Twins, and 2 1/2Yo? Are We Crazy??

My sister lives in Hawaii and is getting married there in August '10. My extended family (parents, siblings, spouses, and 12 kids ages 2-12) is planning on taking the trip there together for the wedding for 7-10 days. Am I crazy for wanting to take our 4 kids along on this trip. At that time our kids will be a 10 yo boy, 4 yo boy/girl twins, and a 2 1/2 yo girl. I know the kids will be fine while we are there. They adapt well to a change in sleeping arrangements, etc. and all the grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins will be there to help each other out. The plane trip is what I'm worried about: 4 hours or so to LA and another 6 or so to Hawaii. We do have the option of leaving the 3 youngest with my husband's parents while we go on the trip. But I keep going back and forth about that. We will be gone a long time, can't get back quickly if there is an issue, and it is a family wedding/trip. Has anyone else done this trip with kids this age or with a large family? Thanks for your help!

What can I do next?

Go and have a great time! The plane rides are long, yes, but there will be a definite end to them. And how awesome it will be to see your kids hanging out, playing in the sand, and getting to know your family members better? It will be a wonderful time. Either it will be wonderful while you are there or you will make wonderful stories for later!

I say you only live once. Go for it!!! What's the worst that can happen... the flight is a nightmare... big deal. You'll make it and have a great time once you are there. I grew up in Hawaii and can't wait until we can afford to take our four children there. It's such a neat place for children to experience. I say just plan ahead... pack new snacks, games, DVD's, etc. for the flight, and just trust that it'll be worth the long travel in the end. FUN!!!

I agree, go for it. How will the younger ones feel when they are older and realize they did not get to go. This is a family wedding and their aunt, they should be there. Be prepared and find stuff at the $1 store to entertain them. What an adventure and will make for great memories for everyone. Have a wonderful trip.

I argued w myself a bit LOL!! On one hand, how nice would it be to not have 3 young children w you especially on the flight!!! But this is a great opportunity to make great family memories!! Go!! Take your children, how many chances will you get to fly your whole family to HI? Be ready for the flights...prepare for the worst...hope for the best and ENJOY!!!
