Fair Price? (Babysitting)

Our morning sitter is fabulous! Her hours are 615-845 Mon-Friday. My husband travels, and the days he travels she doesn't come until 7, but we still pay her regular pay, which works out to $100/week. I also don't work every other Friday or holidays, but we pay her for those, when we told her we weren't going to. But she is awesome, so it's worth it to us.

Today, she came at 7 and stayed until noon. I paid her $30 extra dollars for the ###-###-#### spot. Is that fair? My kids do their own thing when they are at home and are pretty easy. But my husband thought I should have paid her from 7-12. My thought is we already paid her until 845, so I paid her basically for 3.5 hours.

Thoughts? i asked her when I gave her the check and she said it was totally fine and what she expected. Was it fair?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, mamas!

We hired her for $8/hr. I know that's low, but she gets paid for 12.5 hours per week and rarely works that, so she really gets more. And then I paid her for more than the hours she was here.

Hubby and I REALLY like her so we want to keep her happy.

I think what you did was fine. It might be good to have a conversation with her regarding an "additional hours" hourly rate. It sounds like you negotiated a weekly rate which seems very reasonable, but a follow-up conversation of "let's figure out a rate for hours after 8:45" would be a good idea so there are no ambiguities.

Yes. Fair.

I over pay my sitter ,when she takes pay from me(she gets where we are so she only makes me pay her for LONG sitting...like more then three hours). I figure though, I have three kids. Two of which are pretty good together and just roll with the punches...and one that can make a sane person crazy in 3.8 seconds flat.

So if she babysits with pay...It is normally about 40 to 50 bucks just for the day.

$30 extra seems very fair, given you still pay her for the days you are home with the kiddo's. That extra is already a bonus:)

Is it more of a "salary" for the 6:15 - 8:45 (about $8/he when she is there)? The extra 3.25 hours at her regular $8/hr rate would have been $26 (you paid $30). It sounds like you love her, it doesn't matter if your kids are easy, happy people stick around. You asked her when you gave her the check if it was OK, she said it was. Yippee. I tend to "over tip" someone that helps in my home or when I'm out.

Hi, Mom:
The issue is between your husband and you.

Do you two need to come up with an update for the cost of her services?
Just want to know.

well when i babysat i got 95 a week for at least 40 hours worth. so i think she's getting more than necesary already. I'm thinking she should only get 50 a week as it is. thats for two kids. if you have more than that 75 a week.

Sounds reasonable.

Our daughter makes $12-$15 cash per hour on with 3 of her regular families. The other families pay no less than $10/hr.

She does entertain the children, tutors, teaches Spanish, does mani's/pedi's... She is not the sitter that sits on the couch texting and she is compensated for that.

Your extra $30 was very nice.

$10. an hour is fair. I think the extra $30 was generous but appropriate.

She is going to stick with you and be willing to answer and responfd to your calls.. When you find someone that is good with your child and trustworthy.. They are worth it.

FYI, Our daughter charges $10. per hour to babysit and people happily pay it.. She does not sit and watch TV, she is keeping the kids entertained, making snacks, etc.. She even takes games and cards to get them interested in new things.
