I'm wondering if any of your children had strange rashes under their eyes. My 9 mo old daughter has a strange rash under one of her eyes. It isn't in the eye, just under the lashes. It is red and irritated, but it doesn't seem to bother her. Not sure if I should be concerned or not. Any info would be great. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Does the eye look "cracked" underneath the lashes? My daughter will get a "slit" or "crack" under their eyes in the winter and I think it's from the wind and watery eyes. I've noticed that when I use Aquaphor on them the seem to have it less? I wonder if your childs is the same way. Good luck.

Hi Shauna, My kids don't get eye rashes, but I get them. I have them as allergic reastions. As an adult it is a reaction to mascara mostly, but this summer, I had one as a reaction to sunscreen that got too close to my eyes. When I was a child it was a reaction to something in the woods, I still don't know what, but my eyes swelled shut.

Have you changed soaps recently? It could be clothes soap, or shampoo, or baby wash, or lotion.

I would take her in. If it isn't a reaction that you can figure out, it might be something more serious, and you don't want to play games with her vision.

Good luck.

Shauna,
Hello :) I think that it could be nothing, but even so I would absolutely have it checked out. When my sister was younger (2 or 3 years old) she had a similar rash around her eye which just got worse and worse until her eye swelled shut. If I remember correctly she had to have it surgically opened. It turned out that she had something called Herpes Simplex Eye Disease. She is 15 now and still has outbreaks. It has affected her vision and it has the potential to get even worse with each outbreak. Hopefully this is not the case (I'm sure it's not) but that is just my experience with such a thing. I thought I would share because it's much better to be safe than sorry. Here's a link to a website I found that kind of explains it for you:

Hope it turns out to be nothing!

K. :)

My niece had this in the past. The doc advised us to keep washing it with baby shampoo and warm water. It was gone within days. Good luck! :)

If it looks dry, it's like what my son has. I took him to the dr. for it and he said it's like eczema. Just apply scent free lotion and it would go away. I don't think it's what the last person wrote, that's pink eye. Just as long as it's not swollen or irritated, I'd say try scent free lotion and see how it goes. Hope all goes well.
