MOMS,

We need to have our boys' eyes checked. Can anyone recommend a place that is good with children, and reasonable in price? We do not have vision coverage.

Thank you,
T.

So What Happened?

Thank you so much for the advice. The boys are not in school or daycare yet. I will start with talking to their pediatrician. Costco is a GREAT idea. I have been there, but did not think of them for children, too!! I will have to call and talk to them to see if they are comfortable with smaller children or have a recommendation for us.

THANK YOU, MOMS!!!

T.

Do you have a Costco membership? They would be a reasonable price.

I know your boys are too old, but for others that might check this there is a program called Infantsee which is free for babies up to a year old. The site for more info is www.infantsee.org. I did this with my little boy at the Tigard Vision Clinic and really liked our experience there. I don't know what their normal rates are though.

The check from school is a good screening of last resort but will not diagnosis eye issues (like lazy eye) or give you a prescription.

A friend without vision coverage just took her son to Costco and the glasses are cheaper there too. You could also ask your pediatrician for a recommendation in your area. My husband tells me the Clark Howard (a consumer advocate) recently mentioned ordering glasses over the internet from China for as little as $10. While I don't advocate anything from China, it seems that this might be worth it to be sure kids have glasses to succeed in school.

Kudos to you form being proactive on this important screening often forgotten by parents.

If they are at a school/daycare, ask if they have it done. A lot of schools do the basic check once a year for free or reduced.

Dr Love is tops! He does a great exam with kids, totally thorough really kid friendly. he did a full on exam of my then almost 3 year old, and even did a complimentary basics check on my 1 yr old. I don't remember the cost, but I seem to remember that if seemed reasonable. hope this is helpful to you!
